Peter Capaldi as civil servant John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth. It all happens behind a closed door, but just hearing the sound of the gunshots are enough to get me every single time.

not really counting, I suppose, as they ended up being resurrected or "not dead": Sherlock in Reichenbach Fall and Spock in WoK/TSfS (love that last scene).
Alexandra Borgia, the one- season ADA from Law & order.
Shockingly kidnapped and murdered in the trunk of a car.Very brutal, very unexpected.
Aye, and then an added kicker is, though Pullo genuinely cared for Eirene and was looking forward to being a dad, ones does get the sense that he and Gaia were a better match, and once they get together (though the show barely covers that period, IIRC), he probably enjoyed her company more than he did Eirene's. Heavy stuff...Agree with Gaith about Eirene in Rome. Just a tragic character too gentle for the milieu in which she found herself. (What puts extra barbs in it is that Gaia, who screws her over, is hard to completely hate; she's not monstrous or psychopathic or anything... uh, well, she kind of is, but she's also up against it and is making the best of the same kinds of shitty circumstances, she just happens to be better and more ruthless at it than Eirene.)
Omar Little in The Wire. A lot of characters in The Wire, really, but Omar in particular was so emblematic of the ultimate futility of being a badass in "the game."

And the long goodbye for Mark Greene on ER.
Oh, they kill soap characters frequently nowadays - what's rare is when they stay dead (one of the current General Hospital storylines has Robin Scorpio off in some secret Cassadine lab, working to revive Helena and Stavros, both of whom have been killed at least a couple of times previously, and Jason Morgan (shot and presumed drowned when Faison kicked his body into the harbor). It's so rare they kill a soap character. Even when you really think they died, back they come.I tear up when some soap characters die - especially Edward Quartermaine (actor John Ingle had died).
In this case, I think it was out of respect for the actor and the fact they showed the character getting weaker.
What shocked me in that episode was the murder of the little girl in the beginning of the episode. I've imagined an off-screen scene where the mother's friend would have felt awfully bad for not agreeing to look after her when the mother begged her to (not being able to say outright that the family was really being held hostage and were in danger).Alexandra Borgia, the one- season ADA from Law & order.

That was weird timing. R.I.P. James Garner.I have a vague memory of being upset when Nichols (James Garner) was killed off on his own show.![]()
Jack Shepherd on Lost, although it was amplified by so much else and the fact that it was the finale that perhaps it's not fair of me to list him. Nevertheless, I was sobbing.

Forgot about that one; that was very well done. I remember crying like a baby during the last of his episodes.
I'm sure all who watched Stargate cried.I cried some when Dr. Frasier on Stargate died...
