Watched Lolani again last night. That's got to be the single best fan production ever. Totally in the spirit of the original, tackling a societal issue, with good acting and great production values, and an original story that does not harken to any previous episode.

I like "Lolani" a lot (and as you say, it's the only STC episode with no direct ties to an older episode), but it's a bit "on the nose" as far as the "message." There's no subtext there, just in-your-face-text. As Arthur C. Clarke famously said, "If you've got a message, use Western Union."

Not that TOS didn't do this all the time.
