Looking at the bed, I sleep on the right side, but it changes according to the layout of the room I'm in. For example at my parents' I sleep on the left.

Though I am single and can technically sleep wherever the fuck I want, I tend to sleep on the left side of the bed. At least, I do right now with the current arrangement of furniture in my bedroom. Typically, I sleep on the side of the bed closest to my nightstand.

Agreed on all counts esp. the last sentence.

The only difference is that my nightstand is on the right-hand side, so that's the one I tend to gravitate towards.

I currently sleep on the right side, when standing at the foot of the bed and looking at the bed. I used to sleep on the left side, before we moved. It doesn't matter to me, as I'll sleep on either my right side or left, or on my back.

I'm not sure why it would matter so much to people.

When Hubby's in bed by himself (I've already gotten up or he's sick abed), he doesn't sleep on ANY side. He takes over the entire bed, often with his head at one corner and his feet at the opposite corner. I guess he's territorial.

Hm, my answer isn't in the poll beacause I sleep either diagonally or right in the center. :)

Well as a single I have my bed for myself and sleep sometimes on the one sometimes on the other side or any position comfortable. If I share a bed with someone however I think I would normally prefer the right side, however it also depends how the beds standing in the room. If its standing with one bed side at the wall, then I sleep on the side not at the wall, cause I do not like feeling like imprisoned between the wall and some body....my bed for example stand that way, so when sharing my bed with someone I sleep left. Though thats also not so comfortable, cause I dont like having my back to the door (who knows what comes threw there), but I also not particulary like having my back turned to a person. Quite the dilemma ;)

I've gotten so used to sleeping in small cramped bunks thanks to my work, I now can't get comfortable in a double bed, so I've got a single bed and hell, it makes it all the more fun when you're sharing! :D

When I sleep alone, I sleep in the middle of the bed. When I sleep with my fiancée, I sleep on the left side, and she sleeps on the right. I don't think there is really a reason for that, but we started doing it right from the start and we never changed the arrangement.

I sleep on the right and on the left side

More seriously, if I'm not alone, I always sleep on the less accessible side of the bed. It's my way to be a little annoying when I want to get up during the night ;)

I live alone, so I sleep wherever the hell I want to.

 Brother, I hear ya!

Completely single and celibate, and proud of it. Still...yeah, I tend to start in the center, and eventually turn to the right-hand side--but frankly, that's probably because that's where my alarm clocks are.

(Yes...are. I need two. One clock's right by the bed, one's some distance away. Snooze buttons are so unreliable.)

I did this when I was still living with my parents (yes, in the basement!) and was at uni. The clock-radio next to the bed was fine for days when classes started late but on days when I had early classes I set the alarm at the other side of the room, so I was forced to get out of bed to turn it off. I'm very much not a morning person.

I lie on the right side of the bed and always have, since that side was closest to the bathroom in our first flat. We've been sleeping on the same sides of the bed for over 15 years, so we're very much creatures of habit.

It's weird actually. At home we have our specific sides of the bed, but when we stay at hotels or my parents' house we'll often switch sides. I have no idea why.

When i first lived on my own after the seperation i still slept on the left side. i did this for almost two years. Its only in the last year ive started sleeping on the right. The side closest to my night table.
However ive found with someone in bed with me i gravitate back to the left. And this is regardless of the wall being against the bed, or whatever else causes one to switch sides.

As to my alarm clock, i have both alarms set, and three seperate alarms on my cell that all go off in the morning. I get up at five, and ive done this for years, but i know, and its happened, if for whatever reason the alarm doesnt go off i will not get up.

Yet why is it on my days off i wake up at five on the nose and cant get back to sleep??

The poll seems to suggest that theres no standard of who sleeps on what side. Maybe ive just always met men that prefer the right..or i just make the choice for them because of what i prefer.

I actually find this a very interesting question. I have always slept on the right side of the bed (as you look at it), even back when I slept alone. By that, I mean, for much of my life I was a stomach sleeper but I always tended to the right side of the bed and turned my face to the right. Even after I learned (the hard way) how bad stomach sleeping is for me, and started sleeping on my side (because I just cannot sleep on my back) I still tend toward the right side and sleep on the right side no matter where we are. Fortunately, The Hubby has traditionally slept on the left side, so that works well.

Hmm, I sense another poll at some stage on this. :D

I've always been a stomach sleeper too. I really cannot sleep on my back at all. Even sleeping on my side is too difficult for me to want to try it often. How did you retrain yourself?

I switched too, because I have back problems and I figured sleeping on my stomach was just making it worse. I got a body pillow and sleep on my side now. It keeps me from rolling over for the most part. I'm definitely happy I made the switch.

How long did it take you? Were there many sleepless nights during the process?

It's difficult to say how long it took because it's sort of a gradual process, and I'll still sleep on my stomach on the rare occasion. I think it probably took a couple weeks to get used to it and a month to really prefer it. As far as sleeplessness, it wasn't too bad. At first I'd have a little more difficulty falling asleep and be tempted to just turn over, but I got past that fairly quickly. I'd also wake up every now and then but it honestly wasn't that bad.

I'd been sleeping on my stomach for a long time so when my chiropractor told me to switch, I really didn't think I'd be able to do it. I'd suggest at least trying it for a few weeks to see how it goes.

I always sleep on my back. If I try to do the reverse, I can't sleep, 'cuz my head pointing to the left or right puts too much stress on my neck and it distracts me.
