I was in bed with the new bf the other day and he asked which side i slept on. I said i have always slept on the left side. He, the right. We thought back through our many relationships and realised that we had always slept on our respective sides.

We then questioned, do women always, or often pick the left, and men the right?

I suggested starting this poll and perhaps shedding some light on this late night subject of ours.

Single, married, or whatever the case may be, what side do you sleep on?

If none of the options apply, please give a reason.

I currently sleep on the left side, but I haven't always, and if we're staying with guests I'll change as required. I sleep on whichever side is closest to the door. That started when little miss trampledamage was born, so I could easily check on her, and - once she was walking - so she could come into me, I'm just used to it now.

I live alone, so I sleep wherever the hell I want to.

Actually I start in the center of the bed, but usually end up on the left by morning. If it's the summer, though, I always sleep on the left, 'cuz I don't want the airconditioner blowing the air right on me.

I usually pick the side that is closest to the bathroom.

At home, however, I sleep on the left (as you're facing the bed), which is slightly further, because at the time, hubby had a bigger bedside table that would only fit on the right.

But when we travel, I sleep on the side closest to the bathroom, since I'm the one most likely to have to get up in the middle of the night.

Whether it's right or left, I don't really care. Never have.

Unless I'm in bed with someone, I toss and turn a lot, so I'm all over the bed. When I do have someone sharng a bed with me, I don't really pick a side and don't move around much once asleep.

Though I am single and can technically sleep wherever the fuck I want, I tend to sleep on the left side of the bed. At least, I do right now with the current arrangement of furniture in my bedroom. Typically, I sleep on the side of the bed closest to my nightstand.

At the moment I am sleeping on the left side. I have a double bed and right side is against the wall. If I change the room around I might end up sleeping on the right side if it is the easiest side to get out of bed on.

The cats get the side I am not using.

The side at which my alarm clock is situated, which at the moment is the left side (when standing at the foot and facing the bed).

I used to sleep on the left side of the bed and sit on the right side of the couch at our old house. Now it's the opposite for both. Not sure what that means...

This is funny. When she first moved in, I told my wife that I didn't want us to fall into a rut and have "assigned" sides of the bed. It just seemed so...domestic. Instead, I figure we'd just hop into a different side each night, or have a pillow-fight over it, or do something adventurous.

How long do you think it took for us to pick "assigned" sides?

Less than a week, I think. We've had a few polarity changes, though, thanks to moves and additions to the family.

Wow. This is something I'd never think I'd be discussing on a Star Trek message board.

I'm on the right side, she's on the left. This is because I'm right handed and she's left handed, putting our dominant hands on the side with the respective nightstand. Of course, her nightstand was on the left side before we met. We also sit like that in restaurant booths so we don't have dueling elbows.

By that reasoning, lying on your back, wouldn't you want your dominant hand away from your nightstand, so you can more effectively use it when you twist towards the furniture?

I thought about that when I was posting. It doesn't actually make sense logically. well, there goes that theory.

We've moved often and it can change depending on how our bedroom is laid out. However, it's the left right now. And I'm a chick. ;)

Though, I prefer to be in the middle, tangled up with my favorite warm body.
