I want my Phase II spinoff of Strange New Worlds. What does that mean exactly? I'll tell you:
-takes place aboard the classic movie Enterprise refit, picking up right after "The Motion Picture" ends
-keep the color palette and insignia of the TMP uniforms but upgrade the designs to be more "actor-friendly"
-keep the general design of the TMP sets but modernize them. Do for TMP what Strange New Worlds did for TOS
-Paul Wesley as Captain Kirk
-Ethan Peck as Commander Spock
-Celia Rose Gooding as Commander Uhura
-Jess Bush as Doctor Chapel
-Martin Quinn as Commander Scott
-fill out the cast with new actors
-take inspiration from the scripts for Phase II but ultimately make this a new show
-make as many episodes and seasons as possible
-As the series progresses, keep updating costumes, sets and props to fit in with the TWOK style later on

No wait, was it Marvel? Those after TMP.
Don't get me wrong, I love comic books, but they just don't scratch the itch I have for a show that would have, and maybe even should have, already happened, and an era that has so much untapped potential and untold lore.
What scripts? Were not many used for TNG?
Only a couple. "The Child" and I think "Devil's Due" were both Phase II stories recycled by TNG but that's only two of the ones written. I don't remember how many episodes were planned but there are plot synopses for at least 8 episodes and possibly more on various wikis on the Internet.
That would be an interesting "flip the script".

Those are my four choices. All of these would interest me for different reasons.

I’m switching my vote from other to a Romulan War miniseries, on the condition that it’s based on Erik Jendresen’s Star Trek: The Beginning screenplay and general film trilogy, condensed into a 6-part miniseries.
I know the original screenplay needed some polished, and am sympathetic to the prequel fatigue among the fandom. But in general, I’m sold on Jendresen’s idea, and willing to give it a chance and see his vision come to life.
If they are doing these streaming Trek movies for only $25M, then there’s no reason that they could not adapt Jendresen’s film trilogy for $75M. That’s still under $100M, and the type of midbudget product Paramount’s looking for right now.
Knowing what I know now, and knowing that Paramount would not want to do just one series set in the 22nd century, it can be paired with a Birth of the Federation miniseries to go with this that’s more the traditional 10 hour movies format that Paramount does these days.
I do think that a Romulan War miniseries is probably more relevant than ever, and certainly more relevant now than it would have been in the late ‘00s.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Nobody other than die-hard Trekkies would want to see a show or movie about the Romulan War. And even if they made one, I guarantee it will be nothing like what you’ve envisioned in your mind about it.
Honestly, based on where this franchise is going at present, I’d be fine if they just stopped making shows and movies entirely. I mean, c’mon. A live action comedy show starring someone who irritates the hell out of me whenever I hear her voice? Nah, I’m good.

Newsome? Have they even announced the cast?
Given that Newsome isn't in the cast but writing it I think that the below may be appropriate:
I’m assuming she was starring in it as well as writing. Doesn’t really change my mind about the concept if that’s not the case.
Erik Jendresen – the person that write the Star trek: The Beginning script - isn’t a diehard Trekkie. He’s not a sci-fi fan at all. That he though that the Romulan war was a story worth telling and could achieve mass appeal and would be a socially relevant story is quite significant. That’s what sold me on going with his vision.
It's not just die-hard Trekkies pushing for a Romulan War movie.

Puzzle by the "irritating voice" thing, though. Seems a perfectly normal voice to me. Not exactly nails on a chalkboard or anything.

What’s also significant is that the Jendresen script wasn’t all that great and had no chance of being produced. The fact that they went with JJ Abrams’s vision instead, which was hugely successful and pretty much defined the idea of going back to the TOS period for new shows for CBS, effectively nixed any idea of a Romulan war setting.
I find the Mariner character loud, obnoxious, and annoying. YMMV.
