I have always loved the entire Back to the Future trilogy. Years ago I seemed to always hear that others liked the first movie and the third movie, but disliked the second.

More recently I have heard people who like the first and second but not the third.

And rarely I have heard people who don't like the entire trilogy.

So I just wanted to see what people thought. What parts do you like or dislike and do you think that general likes/dislikes have changed over the years?

I like all 3, each has it's own strengths, the first one is the one with the fewest weaknesses. My opinion on them has not really changed since they came out.

2 & 3 are radically different to each other, one being a futuristic adventure and dealing with a dystopic 1985 as well, the 3rd was more of a romantic action packed western with time travel being fairly unimportant. Even though they are films from the same franchise it is still hard to compare them.

i like all of them and i think 2's actually the best since it takes in the past, the future and a twisted present.

I really liked all three, aside from the extended romantic scenes with Doc Brown in part 3. I always thought Biff was the most interesting character to play in the series. That actor really had to switch gears a lot: future Biff, past Biff, cowboy Biff, etc.

2 was the most fun with the futuristic setting. but the last two thirds really dragged it down.

I selected 2 since it had the most challenges against it and while it got from point A to point B to point C and so on, I don't think it did it with the same level of fun as 1 (which I like best) or 3 (which I like next best).

I love them all. I'd say Part 3 for me is the "least best", but still a great movie.
Parts 1 & 2 are in my Top 5 films of all time :)

Ebert got it right: first the best, second not quite as great but still good, third, meh.

Which part of BttF sucks? How Doc turns into a moron in Part III. Can a dozen horses pull a car over uneven desert terrain at speeds up to 88 mph? Only an idiot would even attempt it. And why doesn't Doc ever try to buy Mad Dog off, or lie low until after his arrest? Simple solutions to the deadline "problem". And don't get me started on Doc confusing rainbow-colored 1950s Western movie costumes for realistic clothes. :vulcan:

The depiction of 2015, for one thing. It was cartoonish, silly and completely unrealistic. It looked like somebody threw up My Little Pony.

I mean, come on...flying cars? Clothes that look like they were designed by very young, uncoordinated monkeys? The "Café 80's"? Gimme a break.

Ditto.

But I still enjoyed III; it's just my least favorite of the bunch.

Part III is my *most* favorite. It's definitely the most believable.

As for Doc, well, he is a bit dodgy I admit. However, he's smart enough to do things like remove all the fluids from the DeLorean - INCLUDING THE GASOLINE - before he buries it in the mine. (This is why, after Marty arrives in 1885 and all of the fuel leaks out of his version of the car, he can't siphon gas from the version that's buried in the mine, because THERE IS NO GAS IN IT. Everyone knows you drain out all fluids before storing a car.) And anyone should see that buying off Mad Dog wouldn't work, because Mad Dog - like everyone in the Tannen family, it would appear - simply hates everybody. Not even all the money in Fort Knox could buy him off.

Part 1- Loved It
Part 2- An abomination to God and Man
Part 3- Didn't see it because of Part 2

I saw part 2 a long time after it came out and after I had seen part 1 many times. I was never so disapointed in a movie. I can't remember all the things that were so bad about it, but I know I hated the future parts because they just seemed so over the top campy and goofy that it took me out of the movie. It was like a group of high schoolers trying to do SNL and failing miserably. One of those movies where it is hard to believe everybody involved with it were actually professionals.

Love them all.

I feel sorry for the people who cannot enjoy III as the joyous romp it is. The ending is beautiful as the music swells and the pure fantasy train lifts off.

Perfect ending to one of the the greatest and nicest film trilogies ever made.

I didn't really dislike any of them. Now, it's been quite a few years since I've watched the BTTF films, so perhaps my opinions would be different today, but as I recall, the first was my favourite (natch), and Part III my least favourite.

The twisted present part of the second movie is so over the top and bad that it really brings down the rest of the great trilogy. Still the best trilogy ever.
