Which of the movies 1 thru 6 gives you that 'series' feel the best?

For me, it's no contest- The Voyage Home. Much of Final Frontier also qualifies, the general tone of Wrath of Khan is good, Kirk is excellent in Search For Spock, and many lines in Undiscovered Country are very *wink wink*, but it's The Voyage Home that really feels the most to me like a real extension of the serious & funny that defined the greatest show on Earth.

What's your pick?

I remember catching a few minutes of The Voyage Home playing in a Radio Shack circa 1987. My approximately-11-year-old self thought it was a new Trek series.

I think the movie that feels most like the series would be The Final Frontier. Sort of has the epic story telling they did in TOS.

Maybe I'm just the oddball, but I always thought that TMP captured this feel the best.

In ways, yes. It's just that lack of much humour & colour sort of made it epic SF more than the adventurous pulp we came to love IMO.

I've always thought that the second half of TMP felt a lot like a TOS episode. The other movies were certainly good (even TFF has it's charm) but definitely felt like more of an evolution of TOS than TOS itself. Not surprising, I guess, since TMP was the closest to TOS time-wise.

Agreed. I'll go so far as to say that TMP and TWOK are two sides of TOS' sensibilities.

If you are looking for fun and campiness, then Voyage Home and The Final Frontier have the most elements, although TFF humor lies flat at times. I think they captured some of the same humor at times in The Search for Spock as well.

If you are looking for that serious, stylized type of Trek, then The Motion Picture (director's cut) and The Wrath of Khan have that.

The Undiscovered Country, IMO, can be best described as pre-TNG.

Another vote for The Final Frontier.

Add me to that list. The FF was most like the series. After that, or tied with that, is Search for Spock. SFS is the better movie than TFF but they were both very much like the original series.

The Final Frontier would be my choice as well. The rest of the movie series went in different directions than the television series for the most part.

Which is not to say that TFF is any good.

I'd say The Voyage Home. It reminds me of "A Piece of the Action" in its sensibilities, and it's not quite as "epic" as the other five movies in the series.

They all have elements of it. I agree that TFF has a lot of that feel. But I also see it in places in TMP and the others. TUC.

I feel there is a hidden epic quality located in the subroutine of its matrix.
