And Abrams would've been bashed for being creatively lazy. No matter what he did, he would've been wrong. He's the Barack Obama of the entertainment industry!
Abrams already did the flashback thing with Lost, so it would at least be familiar territory for him. Much like how the Kelvin scene was "every second episode of Lost" according to a friend of mine.
Star Trek (2009).
At least that one didn't suck as both a film and a Star Trek.
It did its job in setting up a new universe, rebooting the Trek film franchise, and providing a nice homage to The Original Series. It was a well-made action film that entertained me for two hours, and while it has its fair share of flaws, I liked it overall.
I guess this sums up how I feel about it:

Darkness was better, but that's not really saying much - they were both horrible.
The question isn't if you like the movies, it's which one you think was the better one.
It is possible to objectively evaluate and analyze the quality of films without liking them on a personal, emotional level.

Then I suppose you'd just have to be satisfied with selecting neither option in the poll, then going to find something else to watch - something which does give you enjoyment.
Because posting in such a poll thread for no other reason than to let everyone know you like neither would be a rather petty thing to do, no?
I watched it. Great. Has this Bajoran Ensign (not the infamous Ro Laren) who was in this stunt at the Starfleet Academy with Cadet Wesley Crusher and Tom Paris(?)* where she was in a coverup during the fifth season: "The First Duty".
But the episode name is "Lower Decks".
*Not same character. But same actor as Tom Paris.
