Which NuTrek Movie Do You Think is the Best?

Star Trek 2009. Hands down.

I went into Star Trek 2009, not expecting much, but was blown away.

I went into Star Trek ID expecting to be blown away, and was until the Khan reveal. Then I was like
And when Spock screamed "Khan!," I was like

I've gotten over the Khan reveal since then, but STID could use a re-edit or directors cut or something!

I give the first a slight edge overall, but STID is very close. I've actually watched STID more often. I honestly think Beyond will have every aspect put together that everyone has been looking for, so I expect Beyond to be the best.

Star Trek was the better of the two, but I enjoyed STID as well.

I did try to decide if one was less objectionable than the other, but it was an impossible decision. I greatly disliked both of them, and don't have much hope that the third one will be any better. I will watch it to see if my prediction is incorrect, but that's like expecting the next nuDune book to be even half as good as a Frank Herbert one - something extremely unlikely at best.

^I understand - I had at least one major objection to both; neither of which really matter. I am ultimately glad the franchise goes on and look forward to getting to vote (soon) in the poll which asks me to chose between a whole raft of nu-Trek.

Yes I know it's a origin story...but it's a fantastic one. There's a few fudgy things like Kirk's superpromotion, but saving the planet should get you SOME reward, yes?

Into Darkness just didn't move me. My nerd-brain just can't get past the misuse of pasty English Khan without even taking two seconds to acknowlege the racelifting in-universe, and the flagrant swiping from Wrath of Khan. I won't, however, argue that it's a bad movie. That opening is right out of a 21st-century TOS and the character writing is spot-on as usual. ...but the canon violations? as the man said, I can't get behind that!

Was I disappointed by the followup? Yes and no. So ready for Beyond, though!

Both are great, but the first one is better. The opening is as good as any 12 minutes in the history of the franchise.

Which one I prefer often depends on my mood, but I like both of them.

Admittedly, I can be easy to please at times, Star Trek, for me ...is a hunger that never dies, however, I do have a nagging feeling about the next movie for some reason.

Star Trek. It's one of my most rewatched in the series, after TVH. It's just a good time. STID I don't hate, but I haven't had any compulsion to rewatch it. Despite my owning it and all other Trek films on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital.

That's a good point , never thought of it before but its like a reverse of TVH

There was really no way to cover the rise of James T. Kirk in a single film without some kind of timecompressing shenanigans.

Obviously there was someone, but I always felt it was more of a political move than a reward. Do you think they really explained to the public what actually went on? Star Fleet would have been thrown under the bus in the media if all the facts came out. Hence more a CYA by Star Fleet than a reward. Which explains the ultra harsh reaction to Kirk's first major screw up in STID.

Which is what really grinds my gears about Trek XI. They should have chosen either a movie about Kirk's Academy years/early career or his first mission commanding the Enterprise. Combining both just flies in the face of logic.

They were probably working under the assumption that they got one shot at doing the story.

Which isn't much of an excuse, IMO. Why couldn't we just have the story of Kirk taking command of the Enterprise with flashbacks to key points of his childhood, Academy years, or career? You know, kind of like what was already done in Batman Begins or would be done in Man of Steele.
