Which newer Trek franchise do you prefer, Discovery or the Kelvin movies?

Discovery.

It even managed to make the space battles more exciting than the JJ-Trek movies

Definitely Kelvin! I hoped the series would be much similar to the movies in spirit but after 9 episodes Discovery is quite dull and lacks the dynamic, tension and fun I associate with the Kelvin timeline or the TOS era. I hope the series will become better but for me there is not much in the Star Trek franchise that can compete with the movies.

Pretty hard to answer since none of your two options are Star Trek Franchises. So I'll just pick The Next Generation. Deep Space Nine would be close as it was well done and had good stories. But of the newer Trek series, The Next Generation takes the cake.

so far the Kelvin movies have captured the space adventure feel better for my tastes; I do enjoy discovery so far though, I think it needs to wrap up at least one season before we can really compare. Currently it feels like we are comparing finished stories to an ongoing one.

I love them both. They're very different, obviously. But if I HAD to pick one, I'd probably lean DSC because, being a tv show with hours of content, it has more room to dive deep into characters and story arcs. There's more content there to work with. The Kelvin movies are a blast though.

I enjoyed non of those. The third movie was getting in the right direction but I have also watched them once (with no further interest) and have quit Disco after 3 episodes.

The same goes for Enterprise (except season 4) and Nemesis.

I love both and thoroughly enjoy both, for different reasons. If I had to pick one, it would be the Kelvin films, but only because I am so fascinated by Kirk and Spock's arcs in those films.
