I voted TMP since it was the first movie, but I could never truly decide between it and TWOK. They must co-mingle for top spot in my mind. FC comes in a very close 2nd. (or 3rd? :vulcan: )

It was a toss up between First Contact and TMP. In the end, I voted First Contact. It does speak volumes (no pun intended) that both of these themes were composed by the late, great Jerry Goldsmith.

Re: Which film had the best opening music?

TMP had the best music.

And why quotes around ''opening'' (I corrected this in my reply)? What are you quoting?

miraclefan's quotation mark usage always fascinates me.

TMP for me. I always have preferred the more 'militaristic' scores that Meyer and others later rejected.

First Contact. Without a doubt.

Runner is The Final Frontier though. Not the best movie, but great score.

And third place is Generations.

First Contact gets my vote:techman:
One of the most beautiful soundtracks in a Trek movie, ever:)
TMP comes seconds..iconic piece of music.

^ I agree. I think McCarthy's Generations score is highly underrated. It seems that Berman took the reins off him when scoring the film and it really shows.

I loved the Nexus/"Christmas reality" music from GENERATIONS. It's always been a moving bit of composition for me. I still listen to it sometimes on my GEN soundtrack from GNP Crescendo.
