Spoilers Which Enterprise went out with the most style?

The destruction of the Enterprise has become, unfortunately, routine. TSFS was the first time, and it was played to good dramatic effect. Then it happened repeatedly in TNG, even in the series' finale. I only remember DS9 blowing up once, the Defiant never. Voyager blew up in Year of Hell; were there other times? NX Enterprise blew up in Twilight.

The
dismembering
of the Enterprise in Beyond is by far the most interesting, recalling Charles Stross' critiques of space operas.

Defiant did get blowed up good. Later on it's the second ship to bear the name and registry. Can't remember the episode, but it was a pretty good scene.

There's no question that Beyond did it best though. Earlier ones - including in the movies it was over too quickly. Just a 'boom' and done. In beyond the ship was literally torn apart and falling out of the sky.

ST: Beyond. The remarkable FX, inside and outside the ship, as well as being on board as the crew tries to save her made this 1701 sendoff pretty spectacular. Looking forward to seeing the next adventure aboard 1701-A.

Voyager blew up in Year of Hell; were there other times?

Voyager blew up in Relativity, but just like Year of Hell there was a temporal paradox going on. It wasn't a temporal paradox in Deadlock, but one of the Voyagers blew up when in went through the divergence field and split into 2 separate ships.

If I was going to cite VOY I'd cite "Timeless". The crash landing on the ice planet makes me wince every time.

The destruction of the E in Beyond managed to make me cringe on several occasions. Poor ship, being dissected like that when we barely knew it. The shot of Kirk's face reflected in the glass of his escape pod while the saucer crashes was a great touch. The only thing that slightly diminishes it is that Our Heroes can't reflect on the situation at the time, though given plot developments that's understandable; they've got a lot on their plates.

The destruction of the E in TSFS was something else though. Our Heroes blow the ship up on purpose, as a chance to turn death into a fighting chance to live. We had serious history there, and no other Enterprise would ever take the place of the original. Even if the FX didn't hold up (and for my money they do), having the crew watching the ship disintegrate over Genesis would be one of the most classic moments in Trek history. Knock Nimoy's direction all you want; he nailed that one.

I can't believe I forgot about Timeless.

Yes the thing with Kirk and the others blowing up the ship over the Genesis planet is very sad. One of my favorite quotes. "What you had to do, what you always do, turn death into a fighting chance to live".

Wow, style points, eh? Have to agree: The new one in beyond, though I have no emotional attachment to it compared the vessel I dreamed of living in, for years as a child. That was a huge loss.

The destruction of the iEnterprise in Beyond was extremely well done but I didn't care much for the interior of the ship and didn't have any real connection to the vessel. I was saddened by the destruction of the original Enterprise in TSFS and the Enterprise-D in Generations because I'd spent so much time with those ships and knew how much the characters cared for them. TSFS had the biggest emotional punch and also the Nelson Muntz moment for the Klingons so I'll go with that.

There was just a brutality to the Beyond takedown. There was no time for Kirk to play cute games that save the day. The battle was probably the most realistic in Trek's history.

Indeed, as soon as the swarm appeared, the Enterprise was lost, it was just a case of hanging on enough to get as many crew members off the ship before she succumbed to her injuries.

I'm adding the same, but;.... Beyond by a long stretch.

Very carefully done and for the first time, the ship puts up a hell of a fight against it's fate. Compared to TNG, which was a ridiculous whoopsie moment, it shows you can rip a ship to shreds and it'll STILL keep fighting to stay alive,

TSFS was a good moment, but it was far more about Kirk's reaction on the ground than fighting against the inevitable. It was wonderful that they took the time and effort to showcase the downfall of the E so well this tme round. Having a big budget helps a lot too :p

Definitely Star Trek Beyond. it's not just a ka-boom like the rest, she dies piece by piece and our heroes fight valiantly for her every step of the way. They don't give up until the saucer is seconds from crashing.

And as a lifelong Trek fan, seeing the nacelles (and then entire secondary hull) amputated is a powerful visual.

I love that after everything...
After Kirk and Chekov ignite the thrusters, she flips over and squelches the one who led them into Krall's trap.
