I like cooking but not to the extreme that I would do it every day. And I have a soft spot for frozen pizza, chicken and sushi. I try to eat more fruits and veggies. Other than that I don't really care about my diet, I don't have any health or weight issues.

How about you?

The more important think to me is I largely avoid processed food - if I don't cook it, I don't eat it.

I'm not much of a bread eater. Bread is replaced with frozen pizza, which is even worse....

No bread, no pasta, no potatoes and no sugary anything.

Diabetic. Before anyone says 'poor you' my mom and two brothers were diabetic and I've lived like this for a while so I do not feel deprived. I can't tolerate really sweet things. I react the same way everyone else does if they eat something bitter.

The rest? Veggies. Some fruit and meat. I'm slowing cutting down on the meat.

One or Two?

My diet's generally OK but I eat way too much bread.

Ditto. I go through stretches were all I want is bread, pasta, useless carbs, etc.

My diet basically sucks ass. I'm a compulsive eater; I eat according to my moods. Logically, I know I should do better but the good eating habits never last.

I love vegetables. At its worst my diet includes too much cheese and wine. At it's best it's tons of vegetables and some steamed fish and rare beef. Vegetables, vegetables, vegetables. Today I'm eating half a papaya and a bunch of bok choy and chillie but I'm also going to Costco so I may end up with a hot dog.

And I assume your other family members are all type two as well?

As for the question, we have a mixed diet, either one of us tends to cook each evening. Due to the need to Carb count and calibrate my insulin dosage to the amount of carbs I eat, it is easier to have ready made meals, but we only do that once a week, normally when the wife is out on a Monday evening and I'm at home.

It all depends on your portions. My big problem is I have to remind myself I have to eat because I'm never hungry. I try to eat more protein as much as I can, and less carbs. I do need to eat more fruits and veggie, but I love eating or drinking plain yogurt.

Yes they were also type 2 but my mom and one brother were on insulin.

Well, it does have a massive genetic component. And were on insulin? Did they manage the life style adjustments needed to get back to dietary and tablet control?

I am also 1/4 Native American.

They both have passed away. Other brother is doing a good job controlling his with diet and pills. I take one metformin a day....and walk ...a lot.

Diabetes might have saved my life because before I was diagnosed I didn't watch my diet or exercise much. I was overweight and out of shape. I have lost around 60 pounds (I'm at a healthy weight now) by paying attention to what I eat and by exercising regularly. I have Type 2 like 3 out of 4 of my grandparents and both my parents.

Considering that I also have mild type 2 diabetes, I probably should be a bit more discriminating about my diet. But as far as I'm concerned, if it contains proteins, carbohydrates and/or lipids that my body can assimilate -- and it tastes good -- it's food.

I'm currently on Cambridge to try and lose weight. So having to cut out all the stuff that's bad for me (or at least drastically reduce it), but after losing 70 lbs it definitely is working. Just another 20-30 to go!

I planned to lose 20 lbs this year. Only 25 more to go :D

I usually listen to my body. It tells me what it needs. Lately, I've been suffering from a PTSD and just didn't have the energy to cook, so I lived mostly on cheese and rolls which resulted in rather a lack of vitamins and a surplus of organic matter around my waistline ;). Fortunately, now I'm better and since it's spring I can gorge on fresh salads, asparagus etc.

Atm I'm on a trip around the world in 80 juices which offers rather a lot of surprises. Who'd have thought that gooseberry juice is really yummy?
