Which characters in the main cast got all the attention??

In each of the Star Trek series', they seemed to focus on a couple of the main characters. For example, Enterprise had Archer, T'Pol, and Trip. TOS had Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. TNG had Picard and Data (though I woouldn't be suprised if someone argued for a third important cast member as well). And, Voyager had Janeway, Seven, and the Doctor. So.... which main characters do you think they focused on the most with DS9? Sisko, Kira, and Odo???? DS9 was such a balanced show, that they gave lots of the main characters lots of screen time. The one notable exception is Jake Sisko.

**Note, the title of this post should be changed to "Which characters in the main cast got all the attention??" I accidently typed actors instead. I tried to edit the title, but don't know if it will work...**

Kira in the early seasons and Bashir in the later seasons.

The rest of the cast received fairly even amount of attention spreadout throughout the 7 year run, more-or-less.

I am going to actually go out on a limb and say that Avery Brooks -- the lead of the show -- did not receive the most amount of attention. The spotlight was not on him like the way it was with Bill Shatner, Patrick Stewart, and Kate Mulgrew.

I think Jadzia was robbed a bit too. She was obviously a difficult character to get your head around and clearly the writers found it easier to write for others. Unfortunate.

Well Sisko didn't get the Captain's share of attention until a bit later in the series. In seasons 1 and 2, he wasn't properly developed, and I don't think Avery would be as settled in the role until later on.

Having said that, by the time he was getting more attention, I still don't think he had the main focus on him as much as the other Captains had their respective series focus on them. But that is one of DS9's strengths - aside from say Jadzia and Jake Sisko, the ensemble was well catered for. And the guest character ensemble too for that matter.

I think different characters had different times when it seemed like they were getting a lot of attention. Perhaps Kira in season two, Worf in season four for a bit, Ezri in season seven. But aside from this, it wasn't like Sisko, Kira and Odo were running off on adventures together for the majority of the series.

This. DS9 was way more balanced, which I think is one of it's strengths.

Yes, DS9 is standout among the other series in this regard. With DS9, all the characters were so strong that any of them could have their own eps as easily as any other character. DS9 could have eps like "It's Only a Paper Moon" where the focus is on two secondary characters and the major players are not necessary and it's not even a big deal.

Secondary characters like Martok and Rom and Garak were far more developed than major characters like Uhura and Beverly Crusher and Harry Kim. Go figure.

This is a fantastic fan trailer which I am reposting from another thread. If I didn't know any better I would have thought Bashir was second in command. In truth, I am so glad DS9 put emphasis on the fantastic recurring characters such as Dukat and Weyoun. It felt like Jadzia got more exposure when Worf joined the crew. Also, true to Trek, it stayed focused on the Commander turned Captain.

IMO that statement does not apply to DS9.

In DS9, the attention is well-spread amongst most of the cast.

If that statement applies to anyone, then it's Sisko who got more attention that he should have, simply because he is top-billed. Most of the time they stick him in almost every episode only for that reason.

One of the best episodes, Treachery, Faith and the Great River is almost Sisko-less, though. :techman:

IMO that's a good thing, because she is a boring and obnoxious character. Screen-time not wasted on her can be put to much better use by giving it to pretty much any other character.

Not putting her in the show at all would have been the most ideal.:vulcan:

I wouldn't go so far to say that I thought she was boring or obnoxious, but I do think that she was one of the less interesting characters on the show. I didn't like a lot of the episodes with her and Worf either.
With that said, I was happy that they replaced Jadzia with Ezri in season 7, whom I found to be a much more fun and interesting character.

Jadzia was one of my favorite characters (the other was Kira). I never understood why people don't like her!!

sisko's prominence increased greatly by season 3 imo, but like others i think the show was very well balanced

yeah what the hell is up with that? not that im complaining martok and garak are among my favorites but it says a lot about the tng people, kim had more character moments than crusher... i like gates mcfadden i wish they could of done more with crusher :(

agreed! cant stand jadzia, i loved nicole de boer as ezri though

watching through DS9 on netflix . . . I always skip the ferengi episodes.
I think they focused too much on Quark and Nog and the whole annoying race of knuckleheads

I think Jadzia was one of the more uninteresting of the bunch precisely because of the writers not knowing how to write for her. That being said, I was very happy when Ezri showed up. I don't know if was her youthfulness or inexperience as a Dax, but the writing improved greatly so this Trill became far more interesting and enjoyable to watch.
