which big name actor will Captain a new series?

Khan 2.0

Commodore
Commodore
apologies if this has already been discussed..

i think after ST3 in summer 2016 they will do a new series (maybe even for September 2016 for the 50th, with the movie out May that year as usual)

anyway whatever time period the new series is set (or universe for that matter) im wondering about who the Captain would be...bear in mind alot of big film stars are doing tv now (as do movie stars who dont do much in the way of films now), plus since Enterprise Trek has become a very big deal due to the JJ films...not so much 'meh its just for nerds'

there could quite a big name as Captain for the next series the biggest name to headline Star Trek so far (but not the supporting cast - as with the previous series)

someone like Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Kiefer Sutherland or even Jean Claude Van Damme!

Better idea would be to have a new series premiere a few weeks after the movie opens in the United States, and not in the following fall.

Use the movie as a lead in, the general public would care little about the 50th.

Carl Lumbly would be an interesting series lead actor, as would Michael Vartan- both of whom have worked with Abrams on Alias. I'm not suggesting them because of that, as we don't know that Abrams would be involved in said series, but I think both have the right temperament and acting style to portray a starship captain.

I don't want a name, frankly. Nothing against Bakula, but names like him have a bit of baggage.

Shatner, Stewart, Brooks and Mulgrew where not "names" when they started. They where accomplished actors, yes. But not house-hold names. They turned out well. Bakula did too; but usually names are just not the way to go. It's like with superheroes. Very few anymore are names when they get the gig. Historically, looking at all superhero films, it works best this way. It leaves you without a prior impression of the actor.

That said, I for one hope that come the conclusion of Trek 3 in 2016, we're done with Abrams. Whether or not Trek from then on continues in the verse he originated or not, that will be seen. But I doubt Abrams will even want to be involved beyond it. The fact of his doing the new Star Wars film and the rumors concerning it and Trek and that he had bigger plans for Trek that got knixed by CBS all tell me he's going to move on and I hope such is the case.

It has to be the Prime Universe, set 10-15 years after DS9.

How about Halle Berry, Famke Jansen or Rachel Weisz?

Agree with Bry about Rachel Weisz...I think she would be terrific...love Khan's idea of Sean Bean...

How about Martin Sheen or Ralph Finnes?...

And here is a real limb-teeterer...Sigourney.!...no, I think she could pull it off...
