So were the Irish. But allegory to Palestinians works, too, I suppose. The thing with the Palestinians is that both Israelis and Palestinians can equally say they have an ancient claim, and it was the UN that created Israel. In fact, you go back far enough, virtually everyone was taken over by another group at some point. SO saying any one group is an allegory should be stated in loose terms.

Add me to the list. The Romulans were almost uneasy allies with the Federation. Had DS9 aired even longer, or a show that followed the events of DS9 happened, instead of Enterprise, we might have seen the beginnings of a Federation\Klingon\romulan alliance. That would have been interesting.

Too bad it won't happen.

I would deffo say is Cardassian cos a lot of epsoide in this DS9, Not much in Klingon at all...So cardassian is it.

Definitely Cardassians. They had some very complex characters and are my favorite alien race in all of Star Trek. Even the minor Cardassian characters were usually interesting.

I was never too fond of Bajorans. Sort of meh about the Trill, too, even though they did have some good stuff here and there. There were good Klingon eps but I dunno, just too much of the same honor/dishonor stuff. I really liked Grillka, though.

The Ferengi had some great moments too.

As for the Jem'hadar, I liked them at first when they were still very mysterious, they'd just show up and kick ten kinds of butt, then disappear. Once they started showing up all the time and talking a lot, I got sick of them quickly, they were kinda dopey. For me, they didn't seem nearly as threatening, the further along in the series you got. I liked the Vorta though, especially Weyoun.

DSN did a reasonable job of adding some depth to most of it's main recurring races. The Trill probably had the least depth though.

Cardassians hands down. They made them into a interesting and complex race, same can be said with the Ferengi. Both races really came into their own with DS9

Cardassisns... in a way, they were treated too sympathetically for a nazi allegory.

Ferengi... meh, some very good comic relief (The Magnificent Ferengi), some very bad comic relief (Profit and Lace).

Klingons... actually quite a few good Klingon episodes, especially in latter seasons; so I'll pick them.

I liked the Jem'Hadar (I know, shocker!!!) and how they were they were portrayed to be smart, thoughtful and complex, and the Vorta for their quirks... also Tosk - you felt such pity for them, and it was left open for more development.

Besides, I'm not aware of even the most extreme Bajoran nationalist ever calling for the complete destruction of Cardassia and everyone on it.

^ I too thought Nazi's/Jew's on my first viewing but then at university I was telling a Muslim friend of mine about my love of Trek and he told me how he loved "the one that allegorises the Palestinian situation." I watched it again and saw what he meant. Consider the time DS9 was created - Yasser Arafat, Rabin and the Oslo accords were happening around the same time - fiction usually holds up a mirror to current affairs.

I may be wrong, has anyone ever specifically said what it is an allegory of? Fiction is open to interperation.

^ Actually considering how history repeats itself. Star Trek has often been juxtaposed to our lives, for example the original series Klingons being Russian in the cold war (if I'm not mistaken).

Sci-Fi doesn't end there, because these wars, conflicts and tensions repeat and appear over and over throughout history so it can always be a subject of comparison and relevance.

We're humans and are main flaws seem to be persistent, so the juxtaposition on real life can be done over and over for many different incidents.
