I thought it happened every 7 years?
Maybe Vulcans in the DSC reality have it a bit earlier than the ones of Kirk's universe? Maybe there's is a 6.8 cycle instead of seven?

It's the same universe.
I see no reason why they should change the vulcan breeding cycle.
Which also means that they're not different universes.

Well now we know why he had to get married. I wonder if young PIcard had to babysit the baby while the older people of more stature and family got to interact with him on his wedding day.

It's almost like we have to go on a "search" for him.
The Burnham-universe pon farr cycle will be either 5.25 years, or 8.75 years.
To be 25% different than the prime universe.
They're not universes - just a lot of contradictory stories.

Actually I connected them all years ago with my head-canon. Now I just need to make my head-canon to be the official head-canon of the main canon. Which gives me great power. One bad word towards me and all of a sudden your favorite character was raised by Wesley Crusher on a higher plain of existence!

Same reason they gave Klingons cloaking devices ahead of "Balance of Terror": They wanted to. Same reason they gave a continuity-breaking jump drive to Discovery: They wanted to.
If they think they can get a good story out of it, they'll do it.
