The new teaser trailer tells us that Spock went on leave to solve a problem. So, let's dig into the archives and find the reason why he's gone! Who can come up with a canon explanation that fits with TOS? Are there any mentions in the series that connect him to something big in the past, or some alien species?

Sounds like TOS. Though to make it truly TOS it has to be a super power he forgot to mention and for some reason is not in any Vulcan physiology book owned by Starfleet.

So the red stuff leads to time travel I see. TO the 60's if I am correct from this pic. You know what this means. They are finally honoring the Great Bird by telling his Klingons shook JFK story. Only it will be Burnham who saves the day instead of Kirk.

Well he first goes to the past but then he needs to get Back to the Future but first he has to make sure Sarek and Amanda fall in love with each other which is hard because she has the hots for him after she nurses him back to help after he is hit by young Kirk driving a stolen ancient earth vehicle listening to "Sabotage." in front of her house. He gets them together at the big Surak by the Forge dance by playing "Way to Eden" with his harp for all the audience only to find out the cousin of Adam is their as well and thus we see were Adam the Hippie got his idea for the song. He asks Sarek to go easy on his possible kid someday if he ever wants to join Starfleet and then finds his way back home with the help or old T'Pol who is kind of eccentric now and the only one who doesn't buy into the crap from the Science Directory that time travel isn't possible.

Spock states in "Amok Time" that he had been spared going through Pon Farr up to that point.

Besides, he would be headed to Vulcan not off to some anomaly.
