Where was Carol Marcus

Since Rand was initially planned to be the third lead (or at least so Whitney claimed and backed up with promo shots) that would have been an interesting way to go. But since she was phased out so early which Nichols continued on the shows and movies it makes sense they promoted Uhura.

Yes Rand as realised on screen was weak but conceptually she isn't tied to a station, she needs no plot device to accompany the captain on landing parties but can roam elsewhere too without him, and if she'd been security trained she could have been an effective action heroine. She fills the role easily in the city on the edge of forever comic. In placing the focus too much on the romance, they boxed her in too soon. Uhura was also at risk to suffer that fate (she is Uhura and Rand smooshed into one character) so they keep shifting the goalposts a bit in each movie to keep it fresh.

Jaylah can still occupy the action heroine role as a second tier support character if indeed she returns at all. Carol is still stuck as a plot device.

Another thing I was wondering about was the absence of Science Officer 0718 ... but since he was essentially the embodyment of the Enterprise, it would probably have made the story too complicated for the general audience to follow.

Kirk: "Where's the damage?"
0718: "Major hull damage, captain."
Kirk: "Seriously? That's your response?"
Obviously, Kirk fired him. But, hey, it's not so bad. Since he was the embodiment of the Enterprise, he probably would have been killed when the ship was destroyed. Probably woulda screamed he head off when the nacelles were amputated.

Wow, that's unpleasant. He dodged a bullet...

I would have been quite cool to kill him in agony in the movie as the ship was ripped apart. I think his back story probably means he's done for but we'll see what they do in the IDW comics I guess. I'm wondering if they'll be using the Franklin to explore the nebula while their new ship is built. i actually find that a very appealing concept.

Carol might fall into the same black hole as 0718 though. If they writers can't be sure how or if they will be used in the next movie, they may feel constrained from using them. I think Hendorff disappeared because nobody was sure if he was alive or dead following STiD.

Nice. Maybe she's heading up the physics time travel department with a 5-year old in tow? Me like.

There is a Vanguard reference in there. Right?

My hope is they do not introduce David. At all. I'd hate it if the Marcus character in the Kelvin-timeline would be reduced to the woman who gave birth to Kirk's child. This worked in TWOK. The characters were all much older. David served a purpose in the story. And Bibi Besch worked perfectly opposite Shatner.
In the Kelvin-timeline Marcus would be mother to the Kirk-child first and a person in her own right second. And everything would revolve around the child.

On the other hand I'd be quite happy to see Alice Eve return in any way the writers could come up with.

Samantha Wildman, despite being the only xenobiologist in a space exploration show suffered from this very problem. Very annoying.

I'm still not convinced she's going to be with Kirk in this timeline. I'm still holding onto Marcus/McCoy. ;)

Please, no. While there'd be nothing wrong with that, why have female characters have to fall in love with one of the male characters? Just let her be one of the crew, a friend and colleague.

I could live with that. I'm just not into the whole 'it's a given that she's going to be with Kirk' thing.

Unlike Leslie, whose death made it onto film but his resurrection got deleted. Hello twin cousin!
