You might find a clip on one of the usual video hosting services, but those never seem to stay up for too long.

I'd rather that this thread didn't get around to talking about places to download copyrighted material, however. The studio legal departments quite understandably get a bit testy about that sort of thing, and we try to make a point of not doing anything here which is liable to attract that kind of attention. :)

M'Sharack I ask that you not be offended, by the following comment, however your response to the O.P's question was in essence a gag order.

I understand why you did this and I am even "some what" sympathetic, to the 'fine' line you need to walk as a moderator. But it is not a line you should need to walk. If you take into account, that merely asking a question or pointing out the obvious or near obvious is now something that needs to be condemned or silenced.

This forum we visit and the web in general was designed (at least the public version), to be a place of free expression, I think that is sometimes forgotten. I sense the feeling that you (we) us need to self edit even the most common knowledge responses to any question that may receive the disapproval of TPTB.

Just to mention the existence of the Pirate bay, Youtube, Vimeo or the like is not a crime. Yet you "feel" the need to caution your response. In the Trek Lit forum Christopher on more than one occasions has asked many posters to NOT speculate on future storylines, for fear he may read them and then conflict may arise of possible ownership of said idea, and he is not even a moderator.

I, myself have had countless technical issues in playing legal blu-ray discs on my computer because of overlapping redundant security systems.

All these are examples of free use and free expression shrinking in the public sphere and someone else's power unwarrantably being forced a pawn us.

If you think I am over stating perhaps you shoud read:

This is the type of thing a forum like ours shouldn't encourage but should vigorously oppose.

Give it some thought...

Take care.

We are often told not to discuss such requests here.

The OP specified "for free", for some reason. Surely the actors and writers deserve every chance for their tiny chunk of royalty when fans watch the movie?

Other than borrowing the DVD from his local public library to play on his laptop, there really aren't any legal ways to have this scene for frequent replay on devices "for free".

Nor did I mean to imply that it was.

While the internets are ideally a place for free expression and free exchange of information, it's also necessary to acknowledge things like ownership of intellectual property. Star Trek movies are an intellectual property of Paramount Pictures. They don't get too excited when we play in their sandbox by wearing avatar images made from movie screencaps and writing fanfics using their characters and settings, and we leave it to them to protect their copyrights by policing whatever clips may appear on YouTube, Vimeo and the like.

However, when I see something like "Where to find the bar fight scene... For free" - that's getting into territory we don't want to visit, so I spoke up.

See also: our FAQ section concerning Intellectual Property.

Christopher's objections in TrekLit are a different issue, though not unrelated, and there are valid reasons for keeping speculation on future storylines separate from discussion of already-published material.

I'm familiar with most of the pertinent details of the Carreon lawsuit, but as that had its origins in flagrant and repeated instances of republication of entire copyrighted works without attribution or linkback to the material's creator, from which republication Carreon's stated client was additionally earning advertising revenue, I'm not sure how you think it applies here.

To conclude, if you have question or concerns about TrekBBS policy and how it's applied, I'd suggest that the best place to raise those would be in the Questions, Suggestions & Feedback forum.

I think asking for a particular scene is far different than asking for the entire film though.
