Where is Rick Berman now

I hope he gets around to publishing that memoir
No doubt with the epilogue ending with "It wasn't the Manny Coto show, dammit!!!" :rommie:

Yeah, I think I'd buy it just to hear about all the stuff that went on behind the scenes. I just hope he doesn't bias everything with his self-denying rose-colored "we are all very pleased" bullshit-extruding machine. Just the facts, man...

Yeah, it'll be a valentine to the fans! ;)

My favourite story is how his sons saw the trailer for Star Trek (2009) with the focus on "not your father's Star Trek" :)

That probably sold a couple of tickets.

He's on Twitter, doesn't post that often but seems very fond of his Trek days.

This one from last month I really liked-
"Walking through NYC today, I passed a couple wearing Star Trek tee-shirts. One Voyager, one DS9. Felt good."

If that can happen, surely world peace is just around the corner!

I stand corrected, I'm genuinely interested in this stuff, do you have a short rendition(a link) explaining some of this?

The best way is to read the production sections on Memory Alpha.
Each episode has one, and most of the information there also has a source.

But why did he stick around with a product he knew was subpar?

Be clear I give him credit for holding things together as a franchise, but I'm a strong believer they should of just let stuff fall apart.

Berman knew that if he left, Paramount would go ahead anyway. He felt he owed it to Roddenberry to protect his 'vision' - almost a personal promise.

It's easy for you to say NOW, twenty years later he should have just let stuff "fall apart"... but try and place yourself back in that time. We would've all gone nuts if the producers had just shrugged and said "meh".

Whatever you think of later Trek (Voyager, Enterprise etc) back in '94/'95 no fans I knew were anything but VERY, VERY EXCITED about the prospect of so much Trek. The show had never been more mainstream and it was a great time to be a fan.

Dead as we knew it, is right since it all has a similar feel. Even comparing the political DS9 to the sace opera VOY. If you didn't know English and just watched/heard some random Berman Trek eps, you would still feel a similarity amongst it all.

I still feel that when Berman and Braga took full control over TNG the freshness and the sense of wonder left. There wasn't much exploration anymore, the music turned bland and the federation didn't seem to be as futuristic as in the first seasons. I like the later episodes a lot but i miss these elements from the first seasons.

Like him or not, appreciate his work or not, but he was a Steward of Star Trek, and he worked very hard on constructing what he thought was the best path he was hired to make. As is the case with any Franchise that continues forward, the Baton is passed and the next at the Helm does his best.

^^^ I hope that's tongue-in-cheek.

At first, I would agree. Someone reliable was needed to take over from Roddenberry and he was arguably the best choice at the time. Later on, though, starting with Voyager and especially with Enterprise...not so much...

You mean the TNG era right, not the series itself?

As I remember it, Brannon wrote some very interesting latter day Next Gen stories.

We'll honestly never know. Who knows what would've happened with the franchise if Paramount/UPN had listened to his suggestions?

I mean the series, too! There were great stories in the later seasons, but the background, the music and directing style became increasingly bland and unexiting with some exceptions

And yet that was not Bragas fault.

Um, Braga never took "full control" over TNG. Berman, Piller and Taylor all led the staff later in the series.

Euuum, I hate to play Devils advocate, but as newbie I think I am safe choice: Is it just me or has this turned from to 'Where is Rick Berman' to 'Did he do good enough?'

If so, I'm just gonna say the one statement that can't be argued or disproved. He did way better than I could have done, and I enjoyed the hell out of the ride.
