Where do YOU like to live?

Where is a good place to live?

I'm from New England, which I love, spent a lot of my life in Kentucky, which is one of the nation's best-kept secrets: green, fresh, nice people, and in the cities of Lexington and Louisville you get all the international and open-minded culture you can handle. However you also get the rural element, which is fine, but...been there done that.

Spent 5 years in Shanghai which is intense and frankly an unhealthy, unsafe place both physically and psychologically. But larger than life and never predictable.

Soon I'll be returning to the US and I'm just spitballing notions of doing something new. I prefer cities of <1m people, with natural surroundings, progressive, cool culture, and - affordable. Preferably a place that's not full of crime and tourists. You know, where people are courteous and smart and children can get a decent education and moral, multicultural values.

So any suggestions?

Where would I like to live?

Exactly where i am living now. I love my state, I love my city, I love my suburb, I am happy with my house and I actually see my beloved mountain from my window.

On my own tropical island with a small home...I just would love that...solitude.

Portland, Oregon. Beautiful, green, funky and low-key. Cheaper than California and not as polluted. A well-educated population w/a foodie-culture that's somewhat odd.

Austin, Texas. Yes, it's in Texas, but it has lakes, streams, hills, a great live music scene and the oddest, most interesting collection of people in the entire state. Extremely cheap real estate, compared to West or East Coast cities.

Larkspur, Marin County, California. One of the most beautiful places I've ever lived. Right across the bay from San Francisco, but far easier to drive in, fantastic weather, educated and progressive population. Real estate prices are high, but not as high as Mid & Southern California.

The perfect place that i would love to live in would be Malibu. I can totally picture myself living on top of a hill living with my three cats.

Stay the hell out of Ohio if you want to be at all happy or sane.

:lol:That's why I decided to move to the DC area after three years in Cincinnati.

Smart move!

I thought Ohio was for lovers...like Virginia.

JF

Ohio is for people who are born here who desperately want to leave and can't, and it's also for Michiganders who run out of gas while passing through.

If I were to give some advice...I would tell them to stay away from Richmond, VA and the surrounding counties. I have been in other places other than VA and prefered them, heck I have been to parts of VA I prefered to the metro Richmond area.

Somewhere that's cold all year 'round. Not many places like that left.

Just move a little further north ;)

I used to live a five minutes walk from the centre Glasgow and love the city. Though if I had to be anywhere else, my first picks would be Coventry (I don't know why, but I've always loved my trips there and have some amazing friends in that area) or Florida, it has enough wrestling to keep me occupied and despite not having the best relationship with my father - it'd be good to lean on his citezenship and have someone to borrow money from ;)

Nowhere in England is genuinely cold all year around, just slightly less warm. Average temperatures in Britain are not exactly going down.

Planning on trying out for FCW are you ? :D
