Where do YOU like to live?

I have a very low temperature threshold which means that I hate summer, even London summers where it's mostly around 20-30 degrees Celsius.

The whole global warming thing is an absolute nightmare come true for me.

Oh gosh, I have a low threshold too. I've realized that I get cranky whenever it gets above 65F (that's a little over 18 degrees Celsius, I believe). In the summer, our average is something like 85 or 86F (30C), so you can imagine how pleasant I am then.

And really, it's in my best interest for everything to stay dead and cold because I'm allergic to a great deal that nature has to offer. Spring is a season I could do without.

Portland, Oregon. Beautiful, green, funky and low-key. Cheaper than California and not as polluted. A well-educated population w/a foodie-culture that's somewhat odd.
I would add that somewhere outside of Seattle as well since Seattle itself is effing 'spensive!

I live in Oklahoma, which has a great cost of living and open sky, but it's too damned windy. Seriously, we've not had a calm day in weeks and the average wind speed has been 20mph. It is not uncommon to have to deal with 40+mph winds for a week straight. If it weren't for the wind this would be a great place to live.

That aside, a friend of mine talked me into moving to Spokane, Washington when I can leave here. Not as costly as Seattle, about 30 minutes from Idaho, and has high plains desert with the mountains nearby. It's a small city that hasn't lost the small town charm.

Where is a good place to live?

Soon I'll be returning to the US and I'm just spitballing notions of doing something new. I prefer cities of <1m people, with natural surroundings, progressive, cool culture, and - affordable. Preferably a place that's not full of crime and tourists. You know, where people are courteous and smart and children can get a decent education and moral, multicultural values.

So any suggestions?

Baltimore, baby! Everything you asked for except the crime thing, and that just reminds you that you're alive. :p

It's actually quite safe for the most part, as long as you know how to live in a city and, you know, don't sell heroin.

I'm already living in what I think is one of the best places in the world to live. I don't ever plan moving away, though I wouldn't be averse to having a few pied a terre in various world capitals. You know, for when I take the learjet out for a quick blast.....

But seriously, I really do love Oxford. It's got art, architecture, culture, green spaces, the vibrancy of new students every year, decent restaurants, nice pubs, a good tailor, excellent shopping within 30 minutes drive, is the perfect size for a city, and is in a rich and beautiful part of the southern England with a generally pleasant temperate climate. And London just an hour away if I need anything I can't source locally. Why would I ever move?

My only aim is to eventually move to the swankier end of the city but I'm in no rush since I live in a pretty pleasant part right now.

I've visited lots of places round the world, and while some offer fascinating attractions, I wouldn't choose to live permanently in any of them.

I have lived in the following places:

West Palm Beach, Florida
Birmingham, Alabama
Dallas, Texas
Boise, Idaho
Anchorage, Alaska
Moscow, Russia
Atlanta, Georgia.

By FAR, the best place I lived was Anchorage. If it wasn't for my family here in Atlanta, I'd move back there, like, tomorrow. Maybe even tonight.

Alaska is the most beautiful place on earth. Of that I am certain.

I have lived in Pennsylvania, Florida and now in my favorite spot, San Francisco. I cannot imagine wanting to live anywhere else. I live one block from the headlands overlooking the entrance of San Francisco Bay and this is the view of the Golden Gate Bridge from there:

I love it here.

I departed and returned from a few cruises that took me under that bridge. San Fran is beautiful, but 'spensive.

I hate winter and I hate the cold. My dream is to live somewhere that's warm all year round (but not desert-like). Hawaii would be perfect.

I've lived all over, but I want to move back to Finland because I am half-Finnish and love it there. Ohio is a great place for now, but in a year I'm going to move to back there.

Someday I would like to live somewhere near the ocean, save up for a fishing boat, and be a fisher-woman :)

I have taken one cruise that went under the bridge, twice. It was great. Yes it is expensive here, but for me it is worth it. The city has everything that I want. And my apartment is rent-controlled. :D
