Now the people behind the film aren't Trekkie enough for you? Those same writers whose favourite television episode ever is Next Gen's "All Good Things"? One of whom has a library of Trek novels?

Compare with Rick Berman and Branon Braga, neither of whom had even seen all of The Original Series before making their prequel series, Enterprise.

If they cared about the prime universe, they wouldn't be getting involved in this mess nor would they have blown up Romulus. Like I've been explaining this whole thread.

Don't see why caring for the prime universe has to be attached to the creative decisions they make in hopes of making an entertaining film.

Preserving everything in amber is not a good mindset for writing.

So we don't "give a crap" because we like or love the new movie and are eagerly looking forward to the next one? It was an adjustment at first...yes. Nobody can get used to the new timeline, uniforms and set designs overnight, but I really, really liked and enjoyed what I saw and heard in the film. It wasn't perfect by a longshot and yes...I'd have done a few things differently. We all would have. But we(as well as almost every single film critic as well as the estate of Gene Roddenberry and Majel Barrett) liked it. What you call "Stockholm Sydrome" we call "engaging and thrilling entertainment."

In the end, I'm not talking about enjoyment of the film. Besides the lens flares, I thought the direction was amazing, the acting was mostly good and the visuals were really beautiful. Its about approving of the direction Trek franchise is going in, and this film wasn't "Trek" to me so I obviously I disagree with the direction they're steering the franchise in.
As I said, I'd rather wait another 15 years and get a good prime-universe set TV show than a string of flashy blockbusters that have practically zero connection to the Trek I love besides some familiar names.

I mean, suppose I kept insisting, over and over, that deep down inside you loved the new movie and but felt guilty about it because you felt disloyal to the old shows, so you're overcompensating as a result. Because, of course, nobody in their right minds could possibly have a problem with rebooting Star Trek and anybody who says so must be lying to themselves . . . .

I think its a lot harder to believe that someone who has watched hundreds of episodes of Trek over years suddenly doesn't give a crap about the franchise abandoning that universe/legacy and just starting over in a movie that is simply wildly different to what we've known as Trek.

Again, cart before the horse. Star Trek is not just the sum of its accumulated continuity. Again, the natural life-cycle of series. Every other popular series gets rebooted eventually; Star Trek is no exception.

Rather than rehash all these old arguments one more time, why not just accept that other people have their own reasons which make sense to them? You don't have to agree with those reasons, but why is it so hard to accept that other fans, who love Star Trek just as much as you do, can have equally valid opinions about this?

In this case, they dumped the cart, and it's just a run away horse or mule.

Most sensible post yet. Like I've said before, it should all be about the IDIC, but some people on both ends and sides of the fanbase always forget to respect other opinions even if they happen to find them illogical or ridiculous. YWF and xortex don't like nuTrek...most of the rest of us do. In the end, who cares?

nuTrek is what we have. Our only other option with the recent and current leadership at Viacom and Paramount? Franchise oblivion. Take your pick, folks. Nothing else was going to happen or get greenlit.

Fortunately, TREK 2009 was a splendidly fresh new take on James T. Kirk and his crew with a well-received and acclaimed story. If you don't like it, don't watch it. But the opinions and judgment of the critics and detractors are no more important or refined than those of the fans. Our tastes and judgment are just as good as yours.

I'm a fanatical fan of the Prime timeline and TREK, and I like the new direction. Yes. Some of us hardcore fans do like the J.J. Abrams take and timeline. It's an intriguing and different take and spin on a truly marvelous and kickass franchise that I've adored since I was old enough to sit upright and look at a glowing 1970s-era TV screen.

There's some evidence for you...and I sincerely doubt I'm the only person like me.
