CG render does not hold up to the miniature shot from DS9.
They have made absolutely NO attempt to reproduce the classic TOS look of anything. The phasers come the closest, and even then they're a combination of the phasers and the Cage hand lasers. Everything else so far has been fair game.
Except for the communicator. That seems to be a cross between the TOS design and the bulkier one from TWOK/TSFS. For that matter, the hand phaser looks like a predecessor of the bulkier weapon from TSFS that later shows up as a prop in "The Final Mission."
Score another one for the "TMP refit adaptation" theory/hope/expectation. I've been wanting to see that version of the Enterprise on screen again since TUC. We've had flirtations with the TOS version in the recent past, so maybe it's time for a resurrection of the 1701's ultimate form?

But again, numerous spinoffs before have made zero attempt at "reproducing the TOS look", until they felt it was time to show Kirk's ship - at which point they showed the TOS ship. Nothing is different here. It's just another not-TOS spinoff with resources to burn, filmed in not-1960s, that's entitled to showing the TOS ship just like all its predecessors.
Not that there'd be anything wrong with Starfleet having ships looking like the TMP one in 2256. It's just that Kirk's ship doesn't look like that at the time. And while we don't know exactly what it looks like (we only know the 2254 looks and the 2265 ones), the whole point of showing the ship would be to imitate.

Considering at least the engine troubles the E had in TMP, it's believeable the E was the first Connie to get that particular refit.
Especially if you go with the theory that it started as a small upgrade and ballooned into the larger refit.
Given the direction and special effects in that last episode, I really want the Constitution class to make an appearance. Yeah, I still want it to be updated, but damn it would it look amazing.

No need for an update. If you do not like VA CG past version, there is old physical model footage that could be used.
I don't think I'd quit as my fandom has endured worse but yeah, furniture will be broken - again.
Compared to Discovery the 1701 is at least, what? Ten, fifteen years or older? Naturally the Old Girl is going to look dated in universe so they should embrace her in all dated glory.
Imo, they should go to the Smithsonian, tell the curator they want to put the Original refurbished Connie on Discovery. With permission, collect new images or scans or whatever the curator will allow and use them to create the ultimate cameo for the Original Enterprise as she has never been seen in universe before.

The new ones are exactly that. New. And even then they didn’t really redesign them much. And in Rogue One they used exactly the same old '77 ships.
To be frank I am kinda getting sick of the constant musical motif and look rehashing of star wars in pretty much everything star wars. The only time they tried to deviate from the look and feel were the prequel flicks, which all sucked,

The TOS Connie can't return as-is because of 2001. I'll explain why I think that in an overly long rambling series of words.
TOS and Episode IV are very different things. TOS was done as well as it could using what budget was available to a 60's television show at the time. I like TOS but visually it doesn't even look as good as the movie that inspired it 10 years previously, Forbidden Planet ( there was no Warner Brothers throwing a lot of money at it with borrowed Disney animators).
Lucas created or had-created a lot of the effects that made the look that works so well in Star Wars and led to the Trek movies looking so good. Star Wars is in Treks DNA, but only from the late 70's on. If Trek had went in the direction that Disney took instead, and made TMP look like The Black Hole using older techniques, it would have probably wound up an bizarre, obscure cap on a franchise with niche fans but no continual development.
Lucas also wisely put Star Wars into essentially static galaxy where no real technological developments happen. If anything Star Trek's lack of displays, beep-beep-boop-boop computers WWI dogfight tactics and Napoleonic War ground strategy is makes watching Star Wars now an enjoyable anachronistic throwback like seeing the old Flash Gordon serials a lot of the material was lifted from. Sequel after sequel can be made from Star Wars and it can look the same, to infinity. It's a stylized theater. It is no more science fiction than Harry Potter. It doesn't have to make any kind of rational sense.
A counter point is 2010. 2010 uses the look of Discovery from 2001. They had the blueprints, and were not going to change the look, but 2001 was a visually stunning movie that did not HAVE to be updated (could go on and on about that, they even made "flat panel monitors" for 2001, pity they didn't with 2010. I digress). I would actually put 2001: A Space Odyssey as the point where space-opera and sci fi movies had to improve and look at least that good. Anything previous required and update and that includes TOS Enterprise. The Black Hole failed as Disney's attempt to cash in on space opera in part (apart from an odd story that scared the bejeesus out of children, including me) but because the fx were dated. It's a Hammer Films production pretending to be Lucasfilm. The same year TMP came out and whatever mistakes it made, FX wasn't one of them. If TOS Connie had been in TMP, it would have looked silly. The TMP model is gorgeous, still.
