When was Voyager at its best?

I would consider getting a "Best of Voyager" DVD Collection, as there is no way I would get all the seasons just to see maybe five good episodes a season.

This is pretty much how I feel about VOY and ENT. I would really love to custom-build my own "Best Of" collection, comprising of maybe 15 episodes. Cuz honestly, there are only a handful of episodes from the later series that really impressed me.

Most people say Season 4.

I go with Season 5, personally.

Probably go with 4,5,6 and you can't go wrong.

Season one had a fun feeling of newness and energy. The season is full of unique character moments (like Neelix and Kes bringing trays of food to the bridge during a crisis). Also, the issues of being stranded in the Delta Quadrant on a ship with limited resources and a crew of renegades are dealt with. I enjoyed many season one episodes, like "Phage", "The Cloud", "Eye of the Needle", "Prime Factors", "State of Flux", "Faces."

However, the show was probably at its best in season five. The production design was slick and the episodes (while mostly stand-alone) were of good quality. "Drone", "Timeless", "Counterpoint", "Dark Frontier", "11:59", "Relativity", "Someone to Watch Over Me", "Bliss", and others were produced in this season and are some of the show's most memorable hours.

I'd go with season five as Voyager's best overall season.

very late season 3 onwards, even season 7 was not a weak season, I thought it was pretty good if judged against TNG, I'd just like to have seen more development but episode for episode it's in my view better than TNG from season four onwards.

I know Season 4 is the popular answer but I have a fondness for Season 2. Not only are there great episodes like "Death Wish", "Resistance" and "Meld" but there's the Seska arc.

I have to say that I liked seasons one through three for allover entertainment;but I have to admit, there were some of the best individual episodes in the rest of the series.

That pretty much explains exactly why I love netflix.

When Voyager was on, it was ON! Eps like "Phage" and "Drone" come to mind....not individual seasons....

Well I haven`t posted in the Voyager forum for years. I miss it!

Best Seasons. Hmmm. It really depends on what sort of fan you are. I liked the Borg episodes the most, so I actually enjoyed season 7 but my best was season 5.

I actually think, and I know this is not the majority opinion, that Voyager got off to a better start and was more "even" throughout than the other 2nd generation series. Voyager didn't seem clunky to me the way TNG did in the first couple seasons. Even DS9 has some real sour notes in the first season, but Voyager seemed to find its footing right away. I think I overall enjoyed DS9 more, but Voayger seemed to be the perfect distillation, to me, of DS9's angst set against TNG's shiny-happy utopia.

I'm just beginning season six and I have to say each season. What I really noticed is how the series hit the ground running and the series evolved each season. I never watched the show when it was on UPN -- I thought it was rubbish at the time. Now I love the series.

I think Voyager was at it's best in seasons 5 and 6. While it abandoned it's premise, it still produced some fantastic stand-alone episodes, many of which were in those two seasons.

I love seasons 1, 2 and 4 best. There were great episodes in each of the other seasons as well, but overall, at least in my opinion, the ensemble was best used in these three seasons.

Scorpion Part 1.

Voyager peaked at the end of its third season, the same way TNG did. They introduced a really dangerous enemy (species 8472) who were cabable of destroying our previous really dangerous enemy (the borg)...

A really good episode with a decent conclusion in season 4. Species 8472 had the potential to be one of treks great villians, but they were totally killed as enemies in that terrible Season 5 episode where they turn into Starfleet officers and all make friends with Voyager at the end...

Yuck.

I personally really enjoyed the earlier years of Voyager, particularly Seasons 1 and 2.

Season 1 explored some interesting ground, it was still very early days, and the producers were trying different things. There were story lines and issues raised in the first season that were never followed up on in later years.

Season 2 had a lot more arc stories, and dealt extensively with the Kazon threat to Voyager, culminating in the brilliant 'Basics'.

The show fell away for me in later years, mainly because of some sudden character transformations (Janeway) and the ever increasing focus on the Janeway-Seven-Doctor group. I always felt that Voyager had the potential to be a better series than it was, I believe it could have been the greatest of all Trek series.

Overall though, Voyager was a great series, with some brilliant episodes. I highly recommend it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees "Basics" as brilliant. To me it's one of the best as well as the most underrated two-parters.
