When is Shore Leave?

"I'm beggin' ya, Marco, I need to be able to write off Shore Leave. Haven't ya got anything for me? I'll write jacket copy! For the love of god, Montressor!"

and

I would take a second job as a Pocket Books proofreader if it meant I could go to Shore Leave every year. Like JD, it's only a matter of when I go to Shore Leave, not if.

Amateurs! Some people do not get "groveling" properly!

I'd shine his shoes. :p
Hell, I'd lick his shoes.
:wtf: Ok, maybe that's going a little too far...

I've always found the judicious use of high explosives works best for me. Solves the immediate problem, and lessens the possibility of any reoccurrences (in the short term, anyway).

Which would also guarantee that the hotel would have to remodel, perhaps removing that disgusting carpet.

Brilliant!

Well, I did say "judicious." If employed with the proper quantity and placement, the problem could be solved, and we wouldn't even have to close the bar.

However, the notion of forcing a replacement for that carpet has its appeal....

Or you can be like me, and just walk up and heckle them.

I should have sent you over to that annoying woman in the other corner who chose to take up a full couch in the bar with her partner, and who got real pissy when people wanted to share the couch in a very crowded bar with very limited seating. She nearly got that plate shoved down her throat.

Come to think of it, the explosives would have worked well on her too.

The thing that hosed me this year would be the extra rent-a-car cost on top of airfare, hotel, etc. Last year, I split it with two other ladies which made me able (barely!) to swing the trip.

That's not counting the therapy I needed after seeing that gawdawful carpet. Or hearing that lame band that took up valuable bar seating.

Maybe we can swing it again another year. Especially since it doesn't look like I'm going to WorldCon this year and may be able to save the $$$.

I'll buy you a pair of sunglasses for the carpet! As for the other-- yeah, explosives would work .

After attending the last couple of years, I've thought about looking into getting one of the large rooms on second floor and hosting a Pocket party.

Who knows, if I actually get invited to Shore Leave this year, I'll see what I can arrange with the hotel.

*Hmmmm*

Eh, while I was in SNW 7, 9, and 10, I'll be pimping my involvement in the forthcoming Shards and Shadows anthology, and possibly some non-Trek stuff assuming I get the details worked out before SL. Not likely as yet, but that's publishing for you. :D

^ I was putting up the most recent Trek credit for each of the folks on the list. SNW10 is yours. :)

Even if I could come I'm not sure how I could get all the books I'd want signed with me to the conference. Some day I hope to be there though!

I'm also awaiting my invitation.
Might I suggest locating Inge Heyer's email address on the Shore Leave site and sending a friendly reminder? (She is pretty busy, so the squeaky-wheel principle applies.)

I've been told that one Geoff per con is sufficient. America isn't ready for more.

I'm just hoping that, with you and I, plus Jeff Lang and Jeff Mariotte, we've finally supplanted "Kevin" as the Trek-writer name of choice.

Two years ago, Jim McCain brought two extra suitcases just for his books. Seriously. :)
