I usually shop earlish, but am so broke this year it will have to be catch as catch can.

Really only need something for his mom and aunt and the three of us.

may try to do something homemade for those I feel I should do something for at work. regifting may also come into play..."found it at a little boutique/antigue store" may be just the ticket. ;)

but nobody thinks you're obligated to give Chanukkah presents to everyone you know. it's not really that kind of holiday. IF you give something to someone -- which is not usually expected anyway -- you just give one thing. the "8 Days of Gifts" thing was just invented to make Jewish kids feel like they're not getting shafted in December.

I usually start in September. Some years I am done by Thanksgiving, and other years I am done by the week before the holiday.

I usually start about the end of September, though I don't go out purposely to Christmas shop until after Thanksgiving. I just pick things up when I see them while I'm out. Am usually done by Pearl Harbor Day.

I usually start thinking about it seriously in October, and by Thanksgiving, I'm usually more than two-thirds done.

Usually the month before. I only have to buy two gifts so it doesn't take me long to get a couple of things delivered.

I usually start about a month before Christmas. It's all down to paydays, when I get paid and how much I have to fork out. I'm afraid I find buying Christmas presents to be a bit of a chore, actually - not necessarily the cost, but thinking about things to buy.

Re: When do you shop for Christmas presents?

Most of my friends and family have decided to scale WAY back this year. I think they're doing it in deference to my own financial situation this year.

When I DO shop for Christmas, it's about a week or two after Halloween, or the week before Christmas.

Last year I composed and produced a holiday CD, and friends and family really enjoyed it. Maybe I'll produce a few more original songs again this year.

Week before Christmas. Usually a few days before Christmas.

It feels more festive that way. Barging your way through crowds, fighting over the last item on the shelf, listening to the Christmas Carollers while getting drunk on free mulled wine and generally making as much of a celebratory nuisance of myself in shops as possible while spending more than is good for me...

As I said - festive.

 It sounds like you'd do well on a shopping trip with me and my gal pals!

Re: When do you shop for Christmas presents?

We shopped from our son back in August-- when money was still steady and decent. We're not doing anything for adults this year.

Truth be told, were it not for my son, I wouldn't even celebrate Christmas.

A month to a month and a half ahead of time...when the sales start getting really good. I started for this year just last weekend when I ran across a few things I think my brother will really like.

i'll start tomorrow (tuesday) and be finished tomorrow already know what to get people the local poundland has all i'll need, i might splash out a bit for my long suffering partner though. perhaps i'll up to £5

As long as there's plenty of mulled wine, mince pies and credit cards, I'm there. :D

I'm only buying three gifts, one I already bought last month, one I'm probably going to buy this week, and the last one the recipient is going to choose for herself when she pleases and I'll simply pick up the bill. The middle gift is going to be impossible, I've been thinking about a digital frame - which is a very bad sign.

I usually start about a month before Christmas. I spend three weekends aimlessly wandering around malls with no clue what to buy, and then I go crazy in the last week.

I'm not quite sure where November went - I only just realized that it's a month to Christmas. I'd better start my shopping this weekend.

Sometimes I shop for Christmas presents for the following year the weeks right after Christmas. :cardie::rommie:

One year, I wasn't planning on it, but happened to be out and found a ton of really awesome things that I bought at considerably less than retail price for the following year! I socked it away with my Chritsmas trimmings and when I got those boxes down I was half way done with my shopping already:guffaw:

But I ususally just shop all year round. Especially if I know the recipient won't buy whatever I find for him/herself. However, the last few years, I have found that I am starting to shop more in the fall months--Sept thru Nov--rather than year round.
