what's your local weather?

It's not just the heat anymore, it's the duration.

I've lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life and, in my experience growing up, you could count on two-three days in late July/early August where the temperature would shoot up to 90+ degrees then drop back down to the seasonal average.

Now, the temperature rises to 90+ and stays there for a week or longer; and since the majority of residences don't have A/C, they don't get a chance to cool down at night, making it that much more uncomfortable/dangerous.

Kentucky has had flooding problems this past week

In more pleasant news....
For the first time in almost 5,000 years of observations, researchers have fully cataloged optical illusions created in the sky as light shines through ice crystals known as atmospheric halos.

The atmospheric halo 'inventory' details frequently seen atmospheric optical illusions from known sources as well as shedding light on rarer halos, including ones with origins that are currently a mystery.

Western Washington just broke a record. Six days of ninety plus degrees. Tomorrow starts the cool down back into the seventies.

We've finally dried out the last few days, but we did get a dust storm a little while ago, and some of other parts of the valley are getting rain.

Please be cooler today I can’t take much more of this heat and am dehydrated according the urine test and I’m constantly tired. Drinking plenty of water and milk but I don’t have any salt or sugar to make a DIY rehydration solution. Not drinking as much alcohol which is a good thing.

Summer is over? I don't think it's got above low- to mid-twenties over the last couple days. Last night it got cool enough that I had to put on a sweater (indoors!).

(I'm sure it's not really over, though, and hot weather will make at least one more hurrah...)

Blessed rain, occasional thunder rumbles

and rumours of lightning striking someone's shed, setting it alight, with the flames then spreading to home and vehicle. But that's just an internet rumour. Apart from a distant view of smoke rising into the sky, no evidence for it.

We've actually been getting quite a bit of rain the last week or so. My only complaint is that it's making it really humid, at least for us, and every time it finally starts drying out, it rains again and it gets humid again.

It feels like things are starting to dry out, so I think we might be getting a break from the rain.
