What's your favorite extended edition Lord of the Rings film and why?

Re: What's your favorite extended edition Lord of the Rings film and w

with the exception of teh gift-giving scene in Fellowship, the films are better, adn tighter, in the theatrical versions. I may also like the Boromir/Faramir/ Denethor bit in TTT as well

But some extended scenes just have no flow at all. The Saruman thing in ROTK played badly. I kept wanting Gandalf to cast a spell that would cause two cups adn a string to appear so that he and Saruman could hear each other.

I've got to go with The Two Towers. The additional material really helps strengthen several of the character stories in Return of the King, and also helps to justify the story alterations that were made, making them work better - if only slightly - than they do in the Theatrical version of the film.

The TTT EE has Eowyn's funeral dirge for Theodred.

Much as I love Eowyn, this is a point AGAINST the EE.

Agreed. While there are a few good new bits here & there, there's little in the EEs to grab my attention. My favorite significant added bit is the Boromir/Faramir/Denethor flashbacks in The Two Towers.

I'm also stunned that the theatrical cut of The Fellowship of the Ring cut out the funniest line in the entire series. "Half the Shire's invited. And the rest are coming anyway." (Oddly enough, the theatrical cut still includes the the set up but omits the punchline.)

I think ROTK was the one most improved by the extended scenes. Really the only addition I didn't like was the silly skull avalanche in the Paths of the Dead. Keeping that scene as a cliffhanger works much better (even if book readers already know what happens).

Something tells me if ROTK were made today, it would have been split into two movies, and rightly so.

Why?
It just sounds silly. And when it so suddenly stops when Theodred's coffin is sealed in the ground, my buddies & I couldn't help thinking, "Oh, they buried her too to stop the singing.";)
I liked Eowyn's dirge, but I agree that the way the scene suddenly stopped was really awkward.

If they knew that it was going to make that much money, we would have gotten 10 films.

They could theatrically re-release the EEs each as two separate movies! Ca-ching!
