whats YOUR favorite episode?

lisa

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Ive been watching TNG quite a bit over the past week or so and honestly have to say that I haven't seen that many episodes. I'm not watching in chronological order (usually what I do) just kind of flipping around my Netflix picking episodes randomly.

My question for you folks, is what is your favorite episode? Most episodes are good, some amazing, and some not so great.... When I try to look up the best episodes on the Web I get a list of episodes I've seen (who hasnt seen "the Best of Both Worlds"?). Then a thought struck me.... I have the perfect resource! Why not ask on the boards?!

So please, any suggestions would be amazing.....

I tend to prefer quieter, character-driven stories over the big action event episodes. Some of my favourites thus include Lower Decks, First Contact, The Drumhead, and The Survivors. Of course, I like some of the higher-concept sci-fi stuff too (Cause and Effect!)

Good luck and hope you enjoy whatever you select!

If you truly want to understand the main characters, the main alien races and the main idea, here are the 40 episodes you should watch. If you decide to check out an entire season, make it season 4. You can't go wrong with season 4.

^ If your goal is to give someone a full list of episodes that allow them to understand the main characters and main races, I kinda feel like you're neglecting Worf and the Klingons a fair bit up there. Third season's "Sins of the Father" and the fourth season finale/fifth season premiere "Redemption, Parts I and II" are just as integral as the fourth season's "Reunion" (which you've listed.)

Also, fourth season's "Brothers" and the sixth season finale/seventh season premiere "Descent, Parts I and II" as far as Data is concerned, although I could see someone saying this is less relevant than the Worf stuff. You still get a great idea of who Data is regardless.

"Frame of Mind" That's the best one for me! I really liked Braga's TNG stuff and some of early VOY, but after that it goes quite downhill.

The inner light
The royale
Deja Q
The offspring
I borg
Time's arrow
But not only, of course

BOBW

(not a very bold choice I know, but it is awesome and remains so all these years later)

BOBW for both onscreen and nostalgia reasons.

In terms of what you should watch, the STNG's 6th season episode "The Chase" encapsulates what all of Trek is about, in universe and out.

I am starting a moratorium on watching STNG until the HD versions come out.

Either "Sarek" or "Tapestry" would be excellent choices, although it's been a while since I've seen the entire series so I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

I love the high concept episodes of the later seasons like, they're not necessairly all my super favorite but they do have high rewatch value for me:

Schisms
Timescape
Frame of Mind
Thine Ownself
Eye of the Beholder

It's tough to pick a favorite, but the ones that I enjoyed the most were the Klingon episodes and the Riker episodes. Thus, one of my favorites is "A Matter of Honor", where Riker takes command of the Klingon ship Pagh.

Which leads directly to another favorite, "Peak Performance", where Riker boldly tells Picard "Captain Riker's never lost!"

i really dont like the political ones, but i liked the mystical ones like Masks, All Good Things, Where No One Has Gone Before, Phantasms, and Yesterdays Enterprise.

Here are all the episodes I like... organized by season but may be unintentionally placed out of production order.

Season 1:
"Datalore"
"0110111011"
"The Arsenal of Freedom"

Season 2:
"Where Silence Has Lease"
"Q Who?"
"Peak Performance"

Season 3:
(n/a)

Season 4:
"Remember Me?"
"Brothers"

Season 5:
"Disaster"
"The Game"
"Power Play"

Season Six:
"Schisms"
"Ship in a Bottle"
"Aquiel"
"Starship Mine"
"Suspicions"
"Timescape"

Season Seven:
"Gambit, 1"
"Gambit, 2"
"Dark Page"
"Force of Nature"
"Parallels"
"Sub Rosa"
"Thine Own Self"
"Masks"
"Genesis"
"Emergence"

For some reason, I don't really have many stand-out TNG episodes, unlike the other series.

Would it be cheating to say the second half of All Good Things? That really kicked into gear when Q appeared, and the courtroom scenes - especially the first - are among my favourite across all Star Trek.

For a stand-alone episode, Yesterday's Enterprise for "wow" factor, Chain of Command and Tapestry for having an emotional impact, and Data's Day for just being...nice.

"Yesterday's Enterprise" with the alternate timeline and the Ambassador Class 1701-C.

Same here...for a couple of reasons. I thought it was cool to see the Enterprise-C with a woman captain. When TNG came out, I always wondered about the history of the 2 ships in between Kirk's and Picard's. I would love to have seen an Enterprise-C series.

I also like the way they brought Tasha back. I remember seeing the previews for the episode and couldn't wait for it!

My two favs (at the moment) are

Timescape
Starship Mine

There are loads of excellent episodes, but if a desert island situation happened these two would be my choice.
