Wow! I have just read through What's Upp and can safely say that, for me, it's right up there with some of my favourite novels (Una McCormack's The Never-Ending Sacrifice, Terry Pratchett's & Neil Gaiman's Good Omens, and Becky Chambers' The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet). I love the ideals of Star Trek and the portrayals of the TV series and novels, but this is a sorely needed (and very refreshing) look at a different facet of the Trek Universe. The characters appear fleshed out and believeable (including Patty), and not one of them is annoying (there's almost always one annoying one amongst any cast) - My favourite is R'u'lek. In fact, I'd be quite happy just to read about these people having a hum-drum, GNDN day! Oh, and I love the SS Westwind - well, as much as I can as its fleeting image is always just on the edge of coherence in my mind.
