"What's Upp?" The Implausible Adventures of Elvis Upp

You end it there?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You tease TLR :)

Guilty as charged.
Juud Mo is merely a pawn in a much larger game. While all the questions left from this story will not be answered in the upcoming Starbase 66 or Time's Upp stories, it should begin to make a bit more sense when those tales are underway.

I hope to have the first installment of Starbase 66 posted this week. Thanks for reading and your comments! :bolian:

Just finished reading this. Not sure why I never read it before. Very engaging. I do hope that Patty doesn't become all-powerful like Kris Longknife's Nelly.

Excellent story, TLR, really gripping and entertaining stuff, leaving us with a fantastic cliffhanger and many unanswered questions. Also great way to tie this into your Starbase 66 series. Clearly a great many things are happening here which appear to run much deeper than they initially appear.

Also another shout-out to awesome characters you have created here. Paddy of course steals the show for the most part but I also want to praise the way you have portrayed Tyg. With Starfleet officers we usually get the super competent or the total extremely lacking trope but Tyg is refreshingly positioned in the vast space in-between. I love the fact that she competent in her discipline but way in over her head in many other things. She has never fired her a starships weapons (except maybe in a simulation at the Academy along time ago) and has never killed another person. She is a terrific and relatable heroine and the heart of this story.

Naturally, looking forwards to what's next for this intrepid group of characters.

Sgt-G: No worries. While Patty may experience some changes over the course of future stories, she will remain her sarcastic, mother-hennish, and totally fallible self.

CeJay - Thanks for the comments regarding Tyg. I wanted a character that would represent the vast majority of Starfleet officers (even if she's 'former' in that regard). They specialize in a particular field, they exhibit courage not because they are fearless but because they face their fears and go on. I felt it was important to balance out the fact that she is one of the rare "unique" beings in all the multi-verse. Plus, I needed a foil to Elvis Upp who is supremely capable, confident, and cocky in so many ways (despite his memory issues).

Good to know. Too many characters like Kris Longknife and Honor Harrington get to the point they simply have no flaws and make no mistake at all, predicting with one-hundred percent accuracy what their nemesis will do next. And then to top them off, they have Nelly and Nimitz to give them near-super-human ability that borders on ESP/precognition. Fun to read but you have to check your BS meter at the door before opening the book.

By the way: TLS & Cejay, I was hoping you two, being amongst Trek-BBS's more prolific writers, might visit my topic here: http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/crowd-source-project-create-a-character-and-help-build-a-crew.280591/

Consider yourselves invited.

Wow! I have just read through What's Upp and can safely say that, for me, it's right up there with some of my favourite novels (Una McCormack's The Never-Ending Sacrifice, Terry Pratchett's & Neil Gaiman's Good Omens, and Becky Chambers' The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet). I love the ideals of Star Trek and the portrayals of the TV series and novels, but this is a sorely needed (and very refreshing) look at a different facet of the Trek Universe. The characters appear fleshed out and believeable (including Patty), and not one of them is annoying (there's almost always one annoying one amongst any cast) - My favourite is R'u'lek. In fact, I'd be quite happy just to read about these people having a hum-drum, GNDN day! Oh, and I love the SS Westwind - well, as much as I can as its fleeting image is always just on the edge of coherence in my mind.
Thank you for sharing this, TheLoneRedshirt.
