What's upcoming? I'm a little out of the loop.

I find most TV shows lack depth and are just dumbed down fun that you can put on in the background while chilling with family and friends or doing chores such as the laundry. I prefer TV shows that require my full attention, otherwise I get bored and tune out.
Not sure what you're watching.

As I said, even a comedy web series show demonstrated depth and engagement that my family and I still discuss.

But, I also think you get out of art whatever you put in. Putting on shows as background noise is not really my goal.

But, I also watch like three or four shows in a year so I have limited experiences. If I want depth I usually am reading a book, studying history or drama. Not usually looking at TV.

Most everyone I know puts on TV as "background noise." When someone walks in the room, bathroom, drink or snack break, conversation among those watching, phones going off, the TV show or movie doesn't get paused. This causes people to inevitably lose interest and try to argue with me that social media is better than TV. This is not limited to young people. (sigh)

When I watch TV, it's usually at night while I'm in bed with my dog, lights out, snacks & drinks (maybe), phone muted. :techman::beer:

Yeah, that's not my way. Kids, wife and I all sit down, watch together in some fashion and discuss.

The shows I enjoy I really watch. Some have complexity and nuance, so paying attention is important. Getting distracted means you'll miss a key piece of information.

I have friends, but they're not the "let's watch TV together and discuss" types. That's why I came back to TrekBBS. I missed it here. :klingon: Well, that's not true, there's one, but our schedules are hard to line up for TV time.

As I said, I watch very little TV, maybe a couple of shows consistently. I enjoy conversation and analysis and so does my wife and family so we unpack things for what we do watch. Again, not a lot of shows so probably the outliers. But, TV on and no one paying attention? Yeah, that isn't how that works for me or my family. If it's not being watched, it's off. Background noise is for music, or such.

I wish my friends had this same attitude.

Most television is crap, boring, or dumb. Shows I do like outside of Star Trek include:
I don't see any The Expanse, Battlestar Galactica (2004), Babylon 5 or Farscape in your list. I think they'd fit in pretty well. Also most of the Star Wars cartoons are pretty good, though I'd suggest a watch list for Clone Wars, it's very hit or miss.

I would've suggested Dark Matter (2015) as well, as it's by Stargate writers, but they never got around to giving it an ending.

Babylon 5: Too similar to DS9.
BSG: I actually want to check out the 2004 show's 2-part miniseries to see if I'll like the series. Worth checking out?
Dark Matter: The group amnesia thing kills it for me.
Expanse: Too political for my tastes.
Farscape: I have this on my Roku watchlist, and I've seen some of S1. Does it get better in later seasons?
Star Wars: I lost interest after Episode 7, a remake of the original movie disguised as a sequel. I've heard mostly bad things about Disney Wars.

B5: That's a selling point, believe me. You're getting a new story with many of the same strengths. And weaknesses (like a mediocre first season).
BSG: The miniseries is pretty representative of the show and they're both pretty decent. The biggest complaint anyone has about the show is the ending, but at least it has one.
Expanse: The politics are only one aspect of the show. There are plenty of other things going on, actual action-adventure sci-fi stuff.
Farscape: It gets good at the end of season 1, though not consistently.
Star Wars: Clone Wars predates Disney Star Wars, and even haters often agree that Rebels, Mandalorian and Andor are decent.

I'll give SFA a shot but, realistically, I'm expecting I'll probably call it quits after the S31 TV Movie.

As far as other genre shows listed...

Babylon 5 --> I've just started watching this. So far, I like it.
Battlestar Galactica --> Watched this in the '00s. I like the first three seasons.
The Expanse --> Also just started. So far, so good.
Farscape --> Watched this in the '00s. Pretty good. Lots of twists and turns.
Star Wars --> I'm a non-fan. I haven't seen any of the shows. Don't plan to. I saw the movies, but I consider myself General Audience.
