What's the nearest body of water to you?

I think that's down by Marseilles, at the confluence with the Illinois, maybe 25 miles south of here. We are in northern Illinois, though, which was glaciated. There is a bedrock that outcrops by us and makes a nice solid floor to cross on, which is why our village exists. It was an ancient crossing, used by native Americans, too. Here is how it looks by us. It's shallow here.
Nearest large body of water is Lake Superior.
I laugh at all of your pitiful little creeks and glorified gutters, for I live but a stone's throw from the mightiest of all rivers, the majestic Santa Ana. BEHOLD!
Many a blissful day I spent walking out to the middle of the sand pit, swarms of mosquitoes gracefully dancing around me in communion, welcoming me back to nature. I would fly fish its bountiful puddles, whose darkened depths held untold riches for those with a very active imagination or powerful hallucinogens purchased from the wise and mystical old vagrants who migrated its endless stone shores in search of aluminum cans and adventure.
There's also the Pacific Ocean about a mile and a half up the street, but when you have all of that right next door, really, who needs an ocean? Besides, there are dolphins and other unsavory types there like women's professional surfers and volleyball enthusiasts in their bikinis... Pfft to all that, says I. I'm at peace on the river.
However, can the mighty Santa Ana make you...

A lot of my family lives up in Sacramento, so I have many fond memories of the American River. Last time I was up there visiting on the (long) way back from spending a week at Lake Tahoe a few years ago, we went whitewater rafting with a psychotic guide nicknamed Ram-Joe. The guy lived up to his namesake.

Do you like it here? I'm not from here, but I appreciate the water-rich environs, coming from SoCal and Arizona. It's very green.
I grew up around here, so it's nothing special to me. I moved away for college, but it was just to the other side of the state. The weather was exactly the same there.
