What's the coolest Star Wars scene of all time.

Just makes me wonder, is that their galaxy (as in, where Tatooine, Bespin, Corellia etc. are at) or is that another galaxy that just happens to be that close to their own? Heh..guess I shouldn't think about it too much.

Well the Millennium Falcon seems to fly off towards it, so....

Hence the phrase "could be" because even with the loose physics of Star Wars, I can't buy that it's actually GFFA regardless of what some behind the scenes snot might say

Yes I like that one too, and the galaxy vista they are gazing at is pretty cool too. I always thought it was their own.

Which means ships in the SW universe are ridiculously fast!

When Han is frozen, Leia & Chewy cry out in anguish, and the screen is filled in steam. The steam clears to reveal Vader's helmet. An awesome little moment.

The Episode II DVD-ROM Exclusive Content states that "the cluster known as the Rishi Maze may be the bright object that Luke and Leia stare at at the end of ''Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back".
If you're hearing from "behind the scenes snots", why not focus on ones that actually might have had something to do with the production of the films?

The asteroid chase in Empire Strikes Back.

That probably is the best. Agreed that "We would be honored if you would join us" was also very strong.

Underrated
-Clones-Going from Anakin saying goodbye to Padme (set to Binary Sunset) to riding his speeder bike (to Duel of the Fates); the latter ended a tad abruptly though.
-Sith-The Yoda/Palpatine fight, especially when the latter uses force lightning.

They're not the only things that are.

That "galaxy" is visibly rotating. From what we see onscreen, how long would it take to complete one revolution? A hour? A day? We'll say a day.

If that thing is the same size as the Milky Way, then it's roughly 100,000 light-years across and 300,000 light-years in circumference. That means an object traveling at the speed of light would take 300,000 years to travel all the way around. Alternately, the galaxy would take 300,000 years to complete one revolution if it was spinning at the speed of light.

For that object to complete one revolution in one day, it either spins at something like 11 million times the speed of light... or it's not a galaxy.

You pick.

Well, I vote it for just being a pretty picture, some way that ILM could end such a downer film.. with a magnificent shot of something.

See, Star Wars doesn't think about science. It's all about romance. I'm not talking about love stories, I'm talking about imagery, production design, and storytelling. The image at the end of the film is a romantic representation of the awesomeness of space.

Interestingly enough, after having watched enough Trek for two lifetimes, and having seen hubble pictures with the vast variety of cloud formations and patches of color, mixed with columns of various gases, it's amazing that Star Wars is as romantic as it is without resorting to any such imagery. No nebulae, no spacial phenomena. Star Wars has always only ever used a vast curtain of stars for it's backdrop, but somehow this seems huge when watching the films, vast, and expansive. That's just because the way the ships are filmed is just beyond reproach.

I know it's already been mentioned, but the part from 2:08-2:12.

The whole sequence is still the best space battle ever committed to film.

Yes I like that too, when the steam clears and you see Vader's face - he looks like some kind of demon or something, very cool shot. ESB was Vader's film anyway, so many cool lines and scenes with Vader in it it's hard for me to pick just one.

It wasn't rotating.

Ships in Star Wars are so fast they made it appear to be rotating by orbiting it at incredible speeds.

Eh. ;)

Coolest bit?

Leia: I love you!
Han: I know.

What an awesome scene. The look on Han Solo's face when he said that was perfect.

I'm still preferential to the battle scenes over Endor. It was the first large scale space combat fleet action seen on film.

RAMA

Yeah me too, as a kid I always wanted to see more of that space battle, never liked it cutting away to the Endor, and even the Luke/Vader duel on the Death Star. Luckily some Star Wars games have somewhat satisfied that desire for me.

having re-watched the movies I'm also going to throw in the scene in ESB where Yoda is rifling through Luke's stuff and finds a little lamp, which Artoo tries to take off him ...

:rommie:
