What's on the wall in the Defiant Ready Room?

Maybe you can help me out with this one.

In The Sound of Her Voice, we get to see a rare glimpse into Sisko’s Ready Room on the Defiant. Generally speaking, Sisko has always shown an eye for decent decor, but in the Defiant Ready Room this display appears to be… well, I don’t know what it is, but it doesn’t seem to be very attractive.

At first glance I thought it might be some kind of display of swords or some other kind of weapons, but it looks odd and incomplete. The ‘swords’ are too small compared to the pitcher and just kind of stuck on there without any reason and also there are no handles. The damaged metal appears to be bent in places and pretty beat up.

My thought is that it COULD be a salvaged fragment from another ship - either from the war or possibly an element retrieved from the Saratoga, as a reminder to Sisko why he involved himself in the Defiant project in the first place . It could also be from the Odyssey or another ship lost during the war - or it could be a piece of the Defiant itself, since we know Sisko can get sentimental about things such as spent phaser power cells. "You don't just throw something like this away!”

Anyway, thought I’d throw the speculation out to the forum… Ideas?

My first thought would also be scrap from another ship the Defiant was in battle with.

I figured it was a piece of wreckage from the Saratoga. I'm sure Starfleet eventually cleaned up the Wolf 359 debris field.

Looks more like a piece of Borg wreckage, though. I mean, it's got the pipe greeblies familiar from the "Q Who?" incarnation of the Borg Cube!

For all we know, it is a reminder of Sisko's first and less successful attempt at building a replica of an ancient spacecraft...

He should have flowers on the wall. That wouldn't bother ME at all.

Then he could play solitaire till dawn with a deck of 51, smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo.

Well, if your guesses are right...basically he has garbage hanging on the wall.

I can sort of understand. At an old job, the office Christmas tree was put up...but it lacked ornaments for some odd reason. So, I started taking empty, colorful used bags from the snack machine and adorned the tree with them. One lady (who would eventually be my girlfriend, oddly enough) asked me "Why are you putting garbage on the tree?"

Since his father was a chef and Sisko enjoyed cooking, these could be cooking utensils. :vulcan:

I remember that scene from "Angel Heart" where they were cooking a large bowl of gumbo and really needed long spoons for that.

Another reason we need DS9 on Blu-Ray already.

"See the Defiant's wall art as you've never seen it before, in full 1080p high definition on Blu-ray!"

I'm sure Starfleet took every precaution to render Borg wreckage "inert," but Starfleet has also never had a firm grasp on Borg technology, either. I'm just saying, if the Defiant appeared to be assimilated from the inside out, I think it's safe to say that we can blame Sisko ;)
