Whatever happened to Short Round?

ToddKent

I mean the character not the actor.

At the end of ToD he was in India with Indy and Willie but there was no indication of what would happen next to him. I'd like to think he went to the U.S. with the others and had some kind of life. I think they mentioned that his parents were dead back home (correct me if I'm wrong) so why not?

To the best of my recollection there was no further mention of the character in the next two movies so it seems unlikely that he was adopted by Indy (which is what I thought should have happened).

So are there any theories? Speculation? Has Spielberg or Lucas ever made a comment as to their intentions for the character's fate?

Sadly, he was in Shanghai in 1937. He'd just gotten a job as mop-up boy in a brothel when a squad of Japanese soldiers came through and raped and beheaded everyone in the building.

No Indy "Expanded Universe'?

Shh......Don't give Lucas an idea to make a fifth Indy movie with. You could also asked what happned with Willie (well besides Capshaw and Speilberg getting a divorce a while ago).

I had no idea they were divorced. ( and neither does wiki or IMDB!)

I recall him in the star wars Indy crossover they did in one of the comics. Of course I don't think either was mentioned by name due to lisence issues.

I believe he was mentioned in one of the Indy computer games from a few years ago. He was a contact for Indy in one of the missions. I think it was Infernal Machine but I'm not sure.

I had hoped he had died some horrible death. I rate Short Round as the most annoying child character ever put on film.

Don't know, don't care.

Seeing how Indy is a college professor and I assume he gets a good chunk of money from museums for the artifacts he brings back, I would think he's wiring money to Shorty too allow him to get by. Indy did mention Shorty was a street kid and could fend for himself.

That or he's adopted by Willie Scott.

That's my best guess.

I always figured he was either dead by the time of Last Crusade, or else Indy scraped together enough money to send the kid off to school.

I agree it would've been cute to see him make a cameo at the wedding in Crystal Skull (along with John-Rhys Davies as Sallah, of course :) )

Frankly, Short Round is over-used enough already in the single movie he was in. The first sign of Lucas' descent into madness and kiddie bullshit. Well, I guess it'd be a continuation of Lucas' descent considering ROTJ came out before ToD.

I thought you said you didn't care? :p
