I remember I was out of the country when it aired. I had to wait to watch it in July on VHS. I was actually afraid the power would go out, and the episode would not tape.
Cool resolution: DS9 promised a more multi-cultural take on the future. Indeed, there were no humans present when hostilities ceased: a Bajoran, a Cardassian, and two shapeshifters.
Weakness: The Emissary to the Prophets was eclipsed by the Emissary to the Founders.
Favorite moment: Jake, staring out the window.

I remember buying the VHS of it; I think it was 2000 until the episode was shown in the UK.
I did the same, not knowing that it was the culmination of a 10-episode arc.
My only problem with it is after the big celebration at Vic's at the end of the Dominion War, the final confrontation with Dukat feels like an afterthought-- "Hey, we forgot all about the Emissary business!"

I wasn't a DS9 fan when it aired, so I didn't catch the finale until the series aired on Spike.
I agree it was odd to try to resolve the Pah'Wraith arc and the war arc in the same episode, because it made the pacing of the episode so odd. It felt like the dream levels in Inception. Sisko fights the entire battle on Cardassia, Odo gets the Founder to stand down! Back to Kai Winn and Dukat, five minutes have passed, and they're still walking into the cave chanting Ancient Bajoran. Otherwise I think the episode was great.

What bugs me specifically is that Winn starts calling to the Pah-wraiths after sacrificing Dukat. Next is the scene with the Founder agreeing to surrender, and it's not until the celebration at Vic's that we see Winn still calling to the Pah-wraiths, as if it had only been a few minutes after she sacrificed Dukat but it must have been several days.
I guess that was just the nature of the incredibly exhausting writing process that had been non-stop from the beginning of the Final Chapter arc. It's the only part of the finale that doesn't quite work, specifically how it coincides with other events.
I think the war should have ended at the end of the first hour, and then the second would focus on his role as the Emissary of the Prophets along with his confrontation with Dukat.
It's really been that long? Funny thing is, I met my husband like a week after this aired. I guess I found a new way to occupy my time!
Kind of agree. It wasn't my favorite part of Ds9 and seemed a bit forced.
I'm on rewatch for the first time. I confess that I have been avoiding watching the end arc because of how depressing WYLB is. I as well did not care for the pah-wraith ending of Dukat. I felt that part was tacked on to deal with the Dukat character and was not integrated well. I would have preferred a longer goodbye between the characters, I felt like Jake got the shaft when his dad choose to say goodbye to Kassidy instead of him. It made Jake's ending really depressing, especially after The Visitor.
Now that you mention it, it does seem a bit odd that Jake wasn't involved in the vision.
I have to agree regarding Dukat. He was such a villainous character that his turn to devil worshiper seemed a little forced to get him back in the story. Even if he has lost his marbles over the death of Ziyal, I don't see him on that final character arc.
It is shocking that so much time has passed since then. Even with the pacing being a bit off, it's an excellent finale. Arguably the best Trek finale.
I lived in Atlanta at the time and DS9 was pulled from syndication at some point during season 6 I think, so I didn't see season 7 until the DVDs came out, so the wait for that last season was brutal.

I had a 4 month old baby when this episode aired. He's now 6' 2".
