I'm just as bumfuzzled by the inability to correct the most basic sound issues.
I think the path of least resistance is a factor here. VFX are so easy to do now they're easier than the live action, which is the opposite of the Super 8 era. As such people who want to see lumbering spaceships going pew pew and phaser beams hitting people can easily get their jollies making a film, and those more interested in character and story have more of an uphill battle.I agree with everyone about the writing aspect (heck, I've been crucified as a hater more often than my share here because of that topic), but as a runner-up it definitely has to be that I wish a good number of Trek producers`d stop going after the right-wing version of Trek as a go-to.
That's the kind of thing I wanted to confront in "The Eagle and the Serpent" for Exeter...I wanted to make the Romulans complicated in their own way, to the point where the Romulan scientist who's conducting this politically motivated "experiment" decides that as a scientist he has to make sure the test he's conducting is accurate, and so takes his finger off the scales and ends up dying because the truth is more important than "winning".[...]the Klingons as symbol for the foreign bad guys, the paper-thin story as an excuse for shoot-em-ups and the military fetichism.
Without naming names I don't see any less of that now in most fan productions. I'm not keen on body shaming, and most of the people "acting" in these things are there to have fun or help a friend. That said, the makers should just admit the characters are the ages the people are.Third on my list is something I'm relieved seems to happen much less frequently since the CBS smackdown, and it`s having ''actors'' who won`t change their deeply-anachronistic haircuts and weirdo beards, much less take a long look in the mirror and relent that when you're an over 50 year-old person with 50 pounds more than the early-20s physically-fit ensign character should be, maybe you shouldn`t be the person in that suit.
