What would be your sucide song?

I'd have to flip a coin. Either The Beatles' A Day in the Life, or Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. -- RR

Ever read Dante? Suicides get sent to hell

Yeah, that's my biggest argument against it. People supposedly kill themselves because they believe their life has become a living hell, but if killing yourself actually results in going to the actual hell, that just defeats the purpose of doing it in the first place. Life may feel like hell, but as long as you're alive there's always some measure of hope that things could get better, no matter how tiny. My idea of hell, however, is that it's just like life at its worst, without the ever-present hope.
If you're going to go through with killing yourself then you clearly don't have any "ever-present hope" anyway, so for those people life is already hell. If you had even the slightest morsel of hope remaining then you probably wouldn't go through with it. And while I don't have any statistics, I'd say that the majority of suicide cases probably don't believe in a god either and therefore don't believe in a hell. They're not killing themselves to get to an afterlife, they're killing themselves in order to stop existing.

Yeah, I know that...I didn't mean to say the people who want to kill themselves still have hope in their minds. Obviously, as you said, they don't. I'm not talking about perception, I'm talking about reality. I meant that as long as one is alive, the reality of the world is that there is always the possibility that their situation and feelings could improve/turn around, whether they believe in that or not. I'm talking about what I believe is a fact of nature, not what people think. And yes, you have to believe in the concept of hell for my theory to have any influence in steering someone away from suicide.

But I wanted to say if you believe in reincarnation suicide is not really a good idea. You're just going to come right back and be taken through the issues again until you clear it up.

This pretty much echoes my theory, except I don't know what this person means by 'clear it up'. I was saying you'll just come back and go through the same stuff that made you want to die in the first place, only this time, you won't actually be alive with the power to overcome it, so it'll be like being trapped in a vicious circle of suffering for all eternity.

And to steer this slightly back on topic - Elliott Smith was the king of 'suicidal sad bastard music'...and I mean that as a compliment. He made some of the best music about deep, deep sadness without sounding whiny or maudlin. If you want to drown in your own sorrows, he's your go-to guy, but hopefully you're doing that just for some catharsis and not as a catalyst for offing yourself. I'm sorry that he eventually did kill himself, but his music kind of hinted that he was headed in this direction. :(

Anyways the idea was inspired partly by how I would kill myself, if I ever did it. i would go off to some secluded place and take sleeping pills in my truck and go to sleep listening to music. Then it occured to me, I don't think I ever really thought about what song I would pick.

In this instance, I'd listen to Frank Sinatra -- his torch songs would be most appropriate, I suppose.

Some of us need that little extra push to get going.

Thread win, right here.

Gods, do you treat your patients like this? :guffaw:
He can't, so he saves it for us. :rommie:

Exactly.

Besides, some of you need the encouragement more. :p :D

It's reverse psychology. Like reverse cowgirl, but kinkier. :bolian:

Why am I suddenly picturing Holdy with a corset and a whip?

Because you're a sick & twisted individual. I mean, not even a passing reference to what shoes I'm wearing? Sick, I tells you.
