What will the trailer include?

T'Cal

Commodore
Commodore
Sure we'll see the cast and maybe even the ship, but what will they be doing? I figure we'll see Kirk fighting (karate chop, roundhouse punch or kick) with an alien, Kirk passionately kissing some young blonde, one of the Spocks raising an eyebrow, Scotty in Engineering with smoke and sparks everywhere, the ship whizzing past at high warp, etc... Maybe not. What do you think?

Sulu pushing the warp handle and spinning the spinny thing... Chekov screaming... Uhura pushing buttons and holding her ear. McCoy using a salt shaker, lol.

A few snippets of the space battles that are virtually guaranteed to be in the film would be nice...

I expect it to start out looking nothing like a trailer for a Star Trek movie or, necessarily, even a sci-fi film. There are parts of this movie that are supposed to take place in relatively mundane settings back on Earth and so forth. At some point, though, just when people are starting to sit forward in their seats and ask, "What the heck is this?" the screen will go black for a few moments and then WHAM! The trailer switches into high gear with lots of epic space shots and otherworldly vistas interspersed with intriguing little exchanges of dialogue that hint at the basic storyline. It all builds to a crescendo which will probably include at least one jaw-droppingly amazing but brief glimpse of the Enterprise herself and at least one dramatic reveal of Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Probably there will also be something with Nero, maybe right at the end to finish on an exciting but slightly sinister note. Black screen. Fade in delta shield emblem. Fade in release date.

Personally, I think that the trailer will be attached with the Nov. 7th for Quantum of Solace (007).

Hopefully the trailer will include Star Trek related images. Of course I could be wrong. Maybe it'll consist of Jar Jar Binks doing the chicken dance for a whole minute and then a big burly Klingon comes out and lops his head off with a batleth. That would be fucking awesome.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Contact the Paramount marketing department immediately.

:techman:

A voiceover will say, "In a world..."

The bad guy will say, "nothing can stop us now!"

Someone will be too old for this s**t.

Someone will karaoke to The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, or similar music into a hairbrush.

There will be Taiko drumming.

Kirk will say something clever that emphasizes his youth and arrogance.

Robert DeNiro will nod knowingly.

Someone will love their job.

There will be a holographic map, but we will see the faces of the main characters through it.

There will be a hot Asian woman who will likely not appear in the film proper.

Something will explode.

Three minutes of an Orion girl dancing, fading to a full frontal head shot of Spock (Quinto) raising an eyebrow, then fading to black.

Frankly, they can do what they want, as long as they don't make it sentimental.

After the logo it will remain dark until we hear the somber voice of the judge. The camera will then focus on the cragged face of the judge as he lectures the rat facing the bench. "I'm sorry, Mickey, but you can't divorce Minnie because you think she's crazy." To which Mickey will reply, "I didn't say she was crazy, I said she was fuckin' Goofy." He will then wink at the camera and the Enterprise will go into warp.

The trailer, as I envision it.

Paramount logo.
Bad Robot logo.
The guy welding the Enterprise's hull.
Nero's tattood face covering the screen. He is laughing evilly.
Pike, on the bridge asking "Analysis?" Spock answers "Unlike anything we've encountered before."
Kirk, with phaser drawn walks down a corridor.
A door slides open, Spock and McCoy raise their phasers
Standing on a cliff overlooking a desert, elderly Spock says "the entire future is at stake."
Several action scenes cut together.
An epic shot of the Enterprise flying by camera.
Starfleet arrowhead insginia against dark background. Over it, Star Trek May 2009.
Scotty is a Jeffries Tube making a witty one-liner.

Paramount Logo.
Bad Robot Logo.
A razor.
Quinto's Spock shaving himself with a razor.
Quinto's Spock getting a small cut on his cheek similar to the one Nimoy had.
Transporter effect sound.
Credits, date of release.

"Space...The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship...Enterprise." with the old series theme playing over top it. Then the Paramount Logo followed by Bad Robot, then we get teased with quick cuts of all the cast members, Nero is shown giving a menancing look. Old Spock is shown saying that the past is being threatened by a group of renegade Romulans that need to be stopped. We're shown brief shot of Starfleet Academy, Chris Pike is shown saying "Congratulations Captain Kirk, the Enterprise is yours" then we get a cut of the Enterprise. Then it cuts to black with May 2009...the Adventures Returns.

Fade in.... Grimy cargo container filled with refugees, you can tell these people have seen hell.

Cut to... A mother and a daughter, no better off then the others, standing at a window, their faces reflecting back at them...

The mother says... "you don't need to be scared anymore baby... everything is goin..."

A red flair fills the the window.... whiteness... then debris... a romulan warbird flies through the wreckage... banking hard.... more torpedoes are loosed....

Camera follows... tracking the torpedoes.... banking under a ship and around another... showing a long convoy of cargo ships breaking formation and skattering in every direction....

The torpedoes find home... a NX/Warp5 ship... explodes showering the screen with sparks....

Sparks fade into static.... Uhura on the new bridge... hand pressing her comm piece into her ear... other hand working the controls... "Captain... I'm receiving a distress call from Something Something Something..."

Camera pans the bridge on a steady cam shot... you see the entire crew working... and their response to the distress call...

Tight shot on Pike.... "Set a course for Something Something Something... Maximum Warp.... Engage!"

Sulu responds as the camera begins to pull back through the few screen.... and begins to pan of the saucer section as it shifts .... deck plates begin accelerating past the narrow shot..... until the camera "falls off" the saucer revealing the neck.... the nacelle pillon passes by in front of the screen.... the camera following lazily.... until you see the ship from the back... a split second before going to warp....

Star Field... you see the paramount logo as a costelation.... that fades to the federation flag still flaring... the date.... fade to black.

You know what I'd love to see?

If JJ is such a fan and might throw in a few "Easter Eggs", how's about this-

It seems the movie will jump from one time period to another several times.

What if in one of those jumps, we see Uhura talking with a blonde woman in a blue uniform on the bridge, and the other woman says to Uhura "What are you doing?" The reply is "Taking command of this ship!"

If that were included in the film, it HAS TO be in the trailer.

If not in the movie, hey, put it in the trailer anyway. :)

[some of you know EXACTLY what scene I'm talking about]

Sulu didn't become a helmsman until some time after Gary Mitchell's death.

If he was even on the Enterprise during Pike's time as captain, he'd have been a physicist.
