what were YOU thinking!!!

What specific plot turn or character moment, or anything having to do with the evolution of an episode/movie really pissed you off and got you to wonder 'what the hell are these writers doing?"...

I remember watching Nemesis in the local cinema with Trek fan former schoolfriend, and he was face-palming all the way through (possibly in the style of Captain Picard in that Internet meme jpg image).

Well, my goodness...

TATV: Why would Bermaga recycle an episode of TNG for Enterprise's "finale?"
Why would Bermaga think that a lame "bait and switch" to pay a ransom would be an engrossing story?
Why would Bermaga have a character "spoil" the "big event" a third of the way through the episode?

Precious Cargo: With thousands of unemployed actresses in Los Angeles, they couldn't find one who could act?

Spock's Brain: 'nuff said.

Troi takes command: NUFF SAID! :wtf:

Quark in drag: Merciful God, why did you forsake us?

When I saw that Shran supposedly did away with a promising military career and became a little crook in TaTV

When I saw the so-called 'Death of Trip' in TaTV

Not a writers moment, but when I saw that the battle to end all battles in "What You Leave Behind" consisted mostly of footage from "Sacrifice of Angels" and a few other episodes.

So let me get this straight...

Riker, having a crisis of conscience, takes Troi's advice and watches a hologram of Archer rescuing Shran's daughter in a exchange for a fake stolen jewel? That doesn't exactly examplify Enterprise's place in history and such an event would probably would've been hushed up, not available for holorecreation. There must've been something more important happening on the eve of the Federation signing surely? Hint: They had pointy ears, were a close cousin of the Vulcans and weren't prepared to have humans flying around their backyard making alliances.

Come on, you writers may not care for Star Trek anymore but there were plenty that still did (quite a few were on the staff) and have never felt "fatigued". You don't just let a series die on it's ass like that.

I actually don't mind Nemesis and don't consider it a crime against Star Trek. Sure it was badly executed but certainly no more than The Final Frontier was. There's a decent story there, just cut to pieces by the usual commitee decisions.

Mine was the last half of Voyager and all of Enterprise.

Except the two MU episodes. That was good.

What were they thinking when they cancelled Enterprise just as it hit it's stride?

CBS, the new owner of the Star Trek television rights, figured Joe Six Pack and family would rather tune in to reality TV which costs almost nothing to produce. ENT was stuck on the God awful/forsaken UPN, which didn't know squat about running a network, but it has to be ST's fault because Moonves hates Sci Fi.

Does walking out of the theater in 1979 feeling cheated because a good half of the story elements in TMP were warmed-over retreads ripped off from "The Changeling" and "The Immunity Syndrome" count?

... and that Enterprise had ratings charitably described as lackluster which were finally levelling out except for the occasional precarious drop while bringing the network and the studio no prestige or critical acclaim while being frightfully expensive had nothing to do with it. Fans are slans and CBS just doesn't love the slans enough.

This was a hard one to consider. But I went with Insurrection. I think it is marginally better than Nemesis. But it came right after First Contact.

First Contact was a box office hit. The franchise was setup to go into greater territory; and the follow up was a re-hash of far better episodes. That is when TNG started it's skid. Nemesis was the final nail in the coffin, IMO.

...the salamanders...

Especially the part where they left the babies behind! WTF!!! Those are Janeway and Paris' children! They could be un-salamanderized by the same technobabble as their parents used. They just dumped the kids on the planet to be eaten by predators.

But by that time I'd given up on yelling at VOY.

And don't even get me started on Tuvix.

Or the part where Janeway and co. infiltrate the Borg and apparently being Borged is about as fearsome a prospect as dressing up to go to a club.

For ENT: Space Nazi S3 cliffhanger, but I have to admit, that was equal parts annoying and entertaining. :rommie: Plus that plotline gave us the chance to see a Coca-Cola product placement in Trek, that was fun.

I'm just grateful I skipped the episode where Archer gets mad at the aliens for objecting to him letting his dog pee on their sacred tree.

Why would they let a guy who brags about knowing nothing about Trek, and thinks Geordi is an alien direct Nemisis? Generally things like that are a sign that you've hired the wrong guy.
All of TATV.
