What were they thinking? AVENGERS style TREK

Maybe Picard needs a new first officer to fight henchmen flooding the bridge while he's speaking authoritarily with the bad guy leader. He can't do everything!

Like it or not, the captain is the star. It's why we started seeing Stewart become more 'front-and-center' during TNG's run while Frakes role was reduced.

^Jigsaw just talks in the Saw movies, but talks so fucking well that the machines can do all the killing and he still steals the movies.

I like to see Janeway or Sisko talk 'so fucking well' just once, once would be nice. They had years to do it.

What were they thinking?

"Let make a bunch of money."

And they did. Why did they chose that over the other thing that did exist yet? Well, because it didn't exist yet. You're proposing the the worst idea I've ever heard.

And that trailer was so bad it gave me cancer.

. Is there a reason for such a sharp divide? For kids like me they're all old Trek.

Lots of people pay money to see them. Mostly younger people.

They can spin off movies for each of the captains: $$$
Not enough people pay money to see any of them.

Pass.

No one gives enough of a shit about Sisko, Janeway, Archer, and at this point...even Picard to warrant the craft services fee. That was the problem with Star Trek for pretty much the last two decades.

DS9 petered out.
Voyager bombed.
Enterprise bombed.
Nemesis embarrassed pretty much everyone.

Who in their right mind thinks combining all of these failures into one massive movie with a couple of octogenarians is a formula for box office success?

It's not about success, it is about making trek only enjoyed by a few elite trekkies and alienating casual viewers and potentially new generation of trek fans.

Excuse me? TNG was a huge success back then, DS9 as well ... and even Voyager used to be very popular. Just because some over saturated people like you are suffering from "franchise fatigue" doesn't mean it was all a steaming pile of horseshit!

Unfortunately, Modern Trek has the stink of failure on it after two movies bombed and three series all left the air with sliding viewership.

Neither DS9 nor Voyager were popular. TNG cracked into the mainstream 20 years ago and hasn't cranked anything out in over a decade.

It's. Dead. Even I wouldn't go see a movie based on this creative abortion and I'm a massive nerd.

I can't help thinking a lot of discussions like these boil down to TNG people who aren't TOS fans being distressed and maybe angry about the reboot of Kirk, Spock, et al probably closing the door on the TNG and TNG-era characters forever.

This. I've had the same suspicion for a while but figured it was best to not poke the bear.

Of course it's dead. Didn't stop Jigsaw from working.;)

The hell's DS9, Voyager, Enterprise and Nemesis? No-one's even heard of them!

That would be because, they haven't been made yet.
