It was the right choice in terms of the narrative, but you can see how it pissed off the fanboys.

I think it would have been great if Picard had made an additional cameo later in the series though - if for no other reason than to reinforce that Sisko had moved on and healed.

Yes, however Cirroc was in, without going and counting, certainly less than half of the episodes and that wasn't the end of his contract.
 
Marc Alaimo and Andrew Robinson were recurring. Garak was initially supposed to be one or two time guest character, but the audience loved him so much they made him recurring.

Farrel's complaint was that she felt she was limited on other opportunities to expand her career, and she didn't want to be typecast.

I think Jake,especially in the early years was considered more of a recurring character. I think their was some legal reason or so that he had to be listed as a regular. Not being Starfleet or part of the command structure means they he was not be important in many stories. Plus the fact that most o his scenes were with either his dad or Rom and Nog and Nog wasn't a regular either means you had more flexibility with him. Take Dax out and it impacts Sisko,Worf,Bashir,Quark and Kira the most.

I would have liked to see more crossover with TNG, and Picard-Sisko as part of that, as long as it didn't detract from DS9's ongoing stories. The E-E and Defiant teaming up on a DW mission could have been pretty cool.

And if you're such a fanboy that anyone saying anything negative about Picard is going to get to you like that, then William Shatner may have put it best.
 
There were many other factors that turned TNG fans off from DS9. Many people just didn't like the characters in the first episode. I had a friend who said Quark was the only character he liked. Most TNG fans didn't want something that different and didn't stick around to give the characters time to develop.

Running into Picard a lot would make the alpha quadrant look like a pretty small universe. They could have gotten away with seeing him maybe a couple of times, with the Enterprise as part of a large fleet during the war. It would be peculiar having Sisko giving Picard orders, though, as Picard was promoted to captain first.

But in seasons 1-5, the Enterprise was probably off going where no man has gone before, not in already charted Bajor. Scientific exploration is the Galaxy class's mission of choice.

If they ever have Bajor join the Federation, it would be a nice touch if Picard could be there. Not saying or doing much, just maybe a nod and eye contact with Sisko. It would be expensive for the producers, though -- I think having Sir in front of your name means you get to double your daily pay.

Given that Sisko was the attache to an admiral for a time, giving Picard orders may have made sense during that time.

From what I recall at the time, and it's also pointed out in the documentary, that some Trek fans had issues with the premise of Deep Space Nine. I've never seen any fans miffed about how Sisko felt about Picard. While Sisko was certainly grieving, I don't see his reaction to Picard as irrational. Picard was the face of the Borg invasion. His knowledge helped lead to so many Federation deaths.

Of course we know it was against Picard's will, but would the average Starfleet officer or Federation officer know what the Borg assimilation process entailed? They would only have to pick up the pieces of their lives and might not get much explanation at all for why Picard did what he did, and why he retained control of Starfleet's flagship. Could some have even saw it as an issue of Picard's weakness and complicity instead? That if he had been stronger the assimilation would not have taken hold? They also might not know the details of "I, Borg" and how Picard had to be convinced to let Hugh go, but they might know that Picard let a Borg go after Wolf 359. I think TNG should've played up more anxieties and fears about Picard after BOBW, as well, as some doubts about his loyalty way more than they did. It would've been nice to see some crew demand to be reassigned to other ships or quit the Fleet, perhaps to attend to injured or grieving family members.

I don't think it's strange that Sisko harbored ill-feelings toward Picard. I'm surprised more Federation citizens didn't. At least in the movie First Contact, Starfleet Command was skittish about Picard enough to keep him away from the Borg. With First Contact, I've long thought that story fit Sisko better than Picard. Picard had somewhat gotten past his experience with the Borg on TNG, whereas we never got that kind of closure with Sisko in a direct way, to see him face the Borg again and overcome them.
 
Even if the sight of Picard brought back bad memories, he confronted his issues with the help of the prophets and was ready to move on by the end of the episode. I don't think he held anything against Picard in the long term.

I think those shots might not have been color-corrected the way they would've been in the original episodes. They looked pretty much the same as when IRML first re-rendered them years ago, so I imagine if they were actually being put into the episodes, the final look would be a little more "directed" as far as cinematography goes, and not driven by an individual artist's style.

Ideally, they would also touch-up or replace some of the older models. At least put on some names on the foregrounds ships.

Well, that's annoying. Hard to know what backers may be missing out on until we know what extras will be included on the disc from the IndieGoGo campaign and what will be on this Shout Factory 2nd disc. Not pleased that it appears they want us to buy the doc a 2nd time to get more content...
 
Apparently the exclusive disc is content produced by Shout Factory themselves, so I can't blame the actual doc producers...but it is still annoying. I really hate when they announce exclusive releases that are limited but don't tell you what's on them at first.

Uggh, I just found out Shout won't ship to international locations, so I guess I miss out regardless.
 
It was also interesting to get the perspective of the Exec, and he seemed *relatively* open about certain things from the corporate angle that I didn't expect to hear about. I wanted to hear a little more from him, actually. But when he used the word "street" in regards to Brooks' look, I cringed. That moment alone was pretty revealing.
 
The one for preorder now on Amazon doesn't have the special features? Might as well cancel.

Shout Factory charges 7 bucks to ship it? That means it will cost around 14 bucks more than on Amazon.
