What model was your first car

True to stereotype, the first car I ever drove was my mother's white FIAT 500, very similar to this one.

But the first car I called my own was a dark blue FIAT 128. That beast made more noise than an elicopter, and shaked twice as much.

It was absolutely awesome.

My first car was a '99 Saab 9-5 2.0t with the engine trim kit. Damn it pulled back when she was new!

I LOVED that car. I mean seriously LOVED. I still get annoyed that new cars don't have all the neat stuff I loved in the interior of the Saab. I have never found another driving environment that was as good.

Sadly we fell on some hard times and couldn't take care of her properly when she needed it. So we had to let her go in the fall off 2010. I damn near wept when we sold her.

I still love my current 2011 Volvo C30 with a small, powerful and economical diesel, and I'm getting nearer and nearer to buy a used 4th gen Camaro. But there's nothing quite like the first car.
My first was a 1979 Chevy Camaro, bought in 1987. Copper paint ("GM #286 - Camel", to be exact) and tan interior. Still had it up until 2010 when, after a failed attempt at restoration, I wound up parting the whole thing out on eBay down to the last nut and bolt. Only the horn cap remains and I'm keeping that - will probably even be buried with it. I was sad to see it go, as I've been through much in my life with that old beast. Four years of Pennsylvania winters back in the late 80's/early 90's started the rusting process in earnest and I was financially unable to fix it up. Then, when I finally started getting the money together to resto-mod it, I discovered that it would take a minimum of $15,000 to rebuild the rear end alone, as it was almost completely destroyed by rust and sitting still too long on jack-stands. That would not have left much else in my budget to do the rest of the project, like a new engine, transmission, differential, paint, etc. So, with much sadness, I let her go along with all the parts I collected over the years in preparation for the rebuild.

I instead put my efforts into fixing up my more recent vehicle, a 1996 Chevy Impala SS, which is still in very good shape for its age. That one has a new LT1 383 Stroker, aluminum drive shaft and Behr multi-piston brake system. I'm slowly fixing up the skin - put a new fiberglass hood on it with dual forced air-induction intakes and custom front bumper cover w/ fog lights. Will probably be working on the interior in the coming years and doing a new overall paint job. Transmission, differential and suspension are all still rock solid and have no plans to do anything with them until they start to show signs of stress. The car still looks pretty stock with minimal cosmetic upgrades but runs like a scalded cat. I like my sleepers. :)
Dude, I already liked your post for the 2nd gen alone, but an Impala SS?! That's a seriously awesome car! Ultimate sleeper! One of my dreams is going on a road trip trough the US in one of those babies :D

I decided to do a more detailed post.

Here's what my first car appeared, a beautiful green 1999 Chevorlet Cavalier.

It looked just like this one. It was so basic. It didn't even have power windows. It had ignition issues (common for this model of that year). I had it for a little over six years. I was never crazy about it. But I had it up to 95 mph on the highways of Kansas

It was far more abused than my current car. I went all the way to San Diego in that car. I had it during my years in Cincinnati (I still had it when I first registered here) and it lasted until the engine went bad in 2008.

My current car looks just like this one...

I'm absolutely in love with it. I have been making better care of it than I did with my first car. I fully intend to have that car as the car I bring my kids home from the hospital few years down the road.

Too bad they won't be in a sports car like I was  (1976 Camaro :) )

My first rejection letter said the appeal isn't "general" enough...but I suppose that's to be expected when one writes a coming-of-age/fantasy/mystery/crime novel about race relations, poverty, addiction, and mental illness!

Sounds good to me! I wish you well in your search for a publisher.

I love it. :bolian: It's so cute, I want to hug it.

The first car I ever owned was a 1974 Porsche 914, which I got in 1986 and had until 1997. During the time I owned that car I also had (for short periods) a 1970 911, 1969 911 Targa and a 1972 914 (which I ended up using for parts for my first 914). I put about 250 thousand miles on my 914 in that 11 years, and I really miss driving it (driving was fun back then and it is more of a chore now). Unfortunately every time I think about replacing it I realize that in Minnesota it would be a far more expensive car to have than it was in Southern California.

Thanks!

It looks like if Casper the Friendly Ghost were a car.

My first car was a Chevy Malibu. I then had a Chevy Nova, and am on my third Chevy Cavalier. :D All of my cars have been Chevys. :D

My first car that was given to me was a 1991 Ford Taurus, which, at the time, I thought was pretty badass since it was the car issued to the Detroit Police by OCP in RoboCop. It was my parents car and they sold it to me for $500.

The first car I took out a loan for and picked out myself was a 1998 Geo Prizm.

Since then, I've driven a 2000 Chevy Malibu, 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2002 Chevy Cavalier and a 2008 Nissan Altima. So, I guess you could say I've sampled a wide variety of makes and models. Right now, I'm thinking of trading in the Altima for either a Toyota Prius or a Kia Optima, so I'm not really loyal to one make or model. In fact, I may have ADHD when it comes to vehicles.

Ooh! I'm also considering the 2012 Ford Fusion!

My father is always raving about the awesome 2CV he bought as his first car, despite some minor flaws like the car's struggling to conquer "climbs" even on the Autobahn at faster than 60km/h and unpredictability about starting if it was the slightest bit cold and/or wet outside.

This was mine, a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

85_Cutlass_Supreme.jpg

My grandmother sold it to me for $20 when I was 17. It was in immaculate shape with only 25,000 miles when I got it. Unfortunately I didn't have a garage to keep it in and it's condition deteriorated over the years... partly because it would be several more years before I got a driver's license. I eventually donated it to a drug rehab center that fixes and sells used cars.
