What was Roddenberry favorite movie?

Guys, this thread was inactive for almost a decade. Please, if it's something you want to discuss, start a new thread when the thread is this old.

This question is motivated by genuine curiosity and no desire to be argumentative: What is wrong with reviving an old thread? I enjoyed reading what people had to say on the subject, even if it was a long time ago.

It's okay, Greg.
Argus, we tend to frown on reviving threads when there hasn't been a post in quite a long time. This is because the original players have moved on and/or lost interest.
I've noticed a few necromanced threads and I just want you all to please watch the dates before you post. This one can remain open, guys.

Why do we not have it so that old threads automatically lock after a certain amount of time? Is that possible? It seems like that would avoid this whole problem.

His favorite was probably the one that made him the most money. Since he was directly involved in TMP instead of being relegated to the meaningless role of "executive consultant," I would venture a guess that he most likely profited the most from TMP.

Roddenberry had every reason to be proud of what he'd done with The Motion Picture. On a (relatively) recent rewatch, I found that the movie really didn't bore me, at all, until the Enterprise first penetrates the V'GER cloud. There's too long a stretch in there, before anything really 'happens," That's mostly because even Spock's like, "... composition: unknown. Purpose: unknown," to whatever we see in there, so we've got nothing to drive our imaginations with. We're just made to look at abstract Art for 15 minutes, or whatever, without reference. Without context. It gives the impression, more, of killing time, than providing a sense of wonder. Fortunately, the movie picks right back up again, after, and is very enjoyable.

Were this diminished and/or sped-up, and some deleted footage added to make up the difference ... I, personally, would not be bored by any other aspect of TMP. It's really quite wonderful. As is the novelisation for it -- penned by Roddenberry's own hand! Were it me, I would not have revisited STAR TREK. I would've pursued other interests. But that's very likely because it's someone else's ideas ... their vision. I'm glad Gene pushed for it, though, because it's one of my favourite movies and even now, 40 years (!!!) later, it's still very beautiful to behold. He really did good and I hope he, personally, really cleaned-up on the venture.
