What type of SmallArms or Man portable gear would you make/want to see in the ST Universe?

By the late 24th century, they were up to 246 elements.

From VOY Emanations (season 1 - this was when tricorders were able to identify classes of humanoids and present viable options for their physiologies - not the late stuff where the computer couldn't make heads or tails out of something despite having a vast database at its disposal) :

Captain's log, stardate 48623.5. There are two hundred forty six elements known to Federation science. We believe we have just discovered the two hundred forty seventh inside the ring system of a Class D planet.

I've seen that episode exactly once, but ignorance is no excuse for lack of trivia prowess. I stand corrected.
 
You can do a variety of things with phasers that are not injuring or killing, intended purpose or not. Heat coffee, slow something down, re-charge a device, etc. Granted, a creative person could do some non-kill/injure tasks with projectile weapons, but energy weapons are more versatile in that respect by virtue of what they're based on.
Talented people, those who are better trained; can do Non-Lethal/Wounding/Injuring techniques with nearly any device.
The Phaser just makes it easier for the average person.

I think that would be quite handy.

I would also add in a portable shelter, even one man energy field, incase of Inclement weather and can't beam out.

I've already thought of a modified Prodigy Phaser that does that.

I call it the "Type-1½ Phaser Multi-Tool"
It has 5x rotatable barrel emitters that covers the vast majority of situations that are useful with a hand phaser.
1) Bolts: are better for in person fire fights since you can shoot and scoot, you don't have to stand there for a fraction of a second to hold the beam emission still, leaving your self vulnerable to counter-fire from the enemy.

2) Contiunous Beams: are better for doing heavy damage to stationary / slow moving objects or having to cut or blast apart a object. The downside is you have to stay still, which in a fire fight, could be fatal.

3) Wide Conical Beams: is good for taking out large swarms or fast moving targets that you can't easily hit with a Bolt or Continuous Beam, only good up close due to "Inverse-Square Law" that limits power as a function of distance.
- The Cone has a 30° Wide Beam Dispersion pattern off the center line, great for taking out lots of small targets near by.
- The Cone can be adjusted between 1°-100° in integer increments by default, add decimal places if they want more advanced functionality

4) Spread Shot: sprays smaller Beam Pellets like a classical Shot Gun with varying size Hexagonal Arrayed Chokes that are screwed into the muzzle end of the barrel
- Different Chokes create different patterns, by default: Classical Bird Shot is used due to the wide pattern and many Beam Pellets that still retain original energy once it impacts the target that is far away.
- This is great for long range attacks against flying or hovering objects due to the wide shot pattern.

5) Wide Field/Fan beam:
- Spreads the beam amongst a Flat Triangular Plane with 130° Wide Beam Dispersion pattern as the default settings
- User adjustable between 1°-180° in integer increments by default, add decimal places if they want more advanced functionality
- 3x people can using this mode can form a Circular Plane coverage that has minor overlap
- The Beam Plane is angled to be "Horizontal" from the emitter / phaser body
- Optimized for fighting BiPaB's or people standing around in a group near by.

For the Shelter, I was thinking of a person carrying a personal access door to their own Pocket Dimension.
They can create a Shelter/Bunker inside the Pocket Dimension and anchor the access door to that location in normal space.
Then they can come out when everything is over.
 
Sometime back, I argued a brain was better than any gear, but that sailed over the Soft Jellylike Thing Inside The Skull and we're stuck in a Hopeless Loop Of Acronyms.
