What Type of Bread Do You Buy?

I haven't eaten a sandwich in 20+ years. I prefer eating a hot meal to eating a sandwich. So I don't really buy bread.
Blasphemy! I can't have a meal (any kind of meal) without bread.

[

Whenever foreigners would come into my restaurant for dinner, they would be appalled that they weren't automatically served bread with their meal. That kind of stuff tends to be reserved for slightly fancier restaurants.

They would also be appalled that they didn't get free coffee at the end of the meal.

Oh, cultures... :p

Americans don't know good food anyway.

Yep.

The coffee bit is extraneous to me also. In Italy, you have to order it if you want it.

It was always people who could barely speak English as well, but for some reason they managed to learn the word "bread." They get their meal: "No bread?" *shocked and appalled look on their faces*

Oh, we have bread, but you're getting charged for it.

Actually, nice American restaurants (obviously not normal chain restaurants) are the only places I've seen bread for free. I've seen bread included in the meal, but there's an automatic cover charge for it. In America, you could theoretically eat bread and drink water and not pay a cent (although they'd probably kick you out ;) ).

I beg to differ. Good food just costs more. :p

Sounds like something worth trying. ;)

Said the man from the country where everything is boiled, served room temperature and/or has WAAAAAY too much sugar in it.:vulcan: I love Britain...I really do. But your food? Meh. Not so much. Nothing personal.

Dude -- I live in Oklahoma

This board is creepy sometimes. I was JUST having this conversation at work today. And yesterday I had the same experience of discussing a different topic at work and then reading a post about it here, in a thread. Freaky. Two days in a row.

I have listening devices near all the TBBS mods. It keeps me in the loop.

I don't know whether to laugh or start sweeping for bugs.

Picked up some all-wheat pitas today. I love those things so long as they're not too crumbly or stale.
