What Type of Bread Do You Buy?

I don't get bread very often. But when I do, I just get whatever's appropriate for the craving. If I want hoagies, I get hoagies, or perhaps bolillos. If I want sammiches or french toast, I'd get white. Multi-grain or rye for a hearty homemade deli sandwich. If I intend to sit in front of the tv dining or roasted red pepper hummus, then I'd get something with texture and flavor like ciabata, baguette, or sun dried tomato rolls from a bakery. Sometimes i get nan or its middle eastern equivalent from the local mediterranean bakery/shop if I'm making chicken tika.

But now, except on very rare occassions, I eat “Nature's Own Double Fiber” bread. It's 50 calories a slice and whole grain..
You do know how they make those high-fiber, low-calorie breads, don't you? The flour is stretched with cellulose. (Read: sawdust.)

I've never understood this “low-carb” thing anyway. You NEED carbohydrates. Just like you need proteins and lipids (fats). Unless you have to follow a prescribed diet for medical reasons, “everything in moderation” is the most sensible way to eat.
Not allowed to have “White” food in the house due to hubs low cal-low cholesterol-low fat diet.
So I guess soul food is OK, then?

The poisonous kind. White bread. But these days i try to avoid potatoes, rice and bread. My cholesterol numbers are enough to stop an elephant in it's tracks. Doc says its my good cholesterol number that is too low and carbs have something to do with it. Whatever.

I've recently switched to a 12-grain bread that actually tastes quite nice. I think I'll be sticking with that unless something better comes along.

I rarely buy bread and its not really a steady part of my diet, although I love it.

When I do eat bread, I prefer to make my own when possible. I'm always experimenting with different artisan recipes. Foccacia dipped in seasoned olive oil is a favorite of mine. I'm also big on homemade biscuits and rolls.

I will try any bread once. I love potato breads, sourdough, foccacia, whole wheat breads, dessert breads - you name it; if it doesn't say "wonder bread" on it, I'm game.

^^^Ooooh so do i!

We used to buy white bread all the time, but a few years ago, we switched to buying mostly wheat and other "grain" type breads.

Wheat or multigrain most of the time. White bread has never been my favorite but there are times I get it because the store's out of wheat or multigrain in the same price range. I try never to spend three or four lousy bucks on one loaf of any bread unless its a speciality or dessert type such as banana nut or cinnamon raisin.

Lucky bastard. Of course, I suppose if I ate it every day I might get tired of it after a while. Like holiday eggnog. Drank it all the time as a kid until i got sick and threw up one Christmas. Then was grossed out by the sight of the stuff for over 10 years. Couldn't touch it again until after I started college.

What type of bread does Hoagie sandwiches fall under?

Oh, it's usually white.

I use sub rolls...usually wheat..for hoagies. I almost never use white bread, because TECHNICALLY it isn't a hoagie if you use flat, square slices of bread.

Every week we buy a couple of loaves of white bread for my teenage son, the eating machine. We also buy a loaf of something with a little more character (rye, wheat, pumpernickel, etc.) for me and the wife. And a baguette.
